Delicious, Affordable Vegetarian

I met a friend here for dinner recently, at her choosing from a short list of local restaurants which I thought she might enjoy. I've been before, though it has been about two years. We came on a weekday night, and secured the last available table in this cozy, one-room restaurant in the downtown "arts corridor." We were given a... More

My kids (10, 8, and 6) were doubtful about this restaurant given that it's vegetarian, but I asked them to trust me to order things that they would like and, luckily, they were quite pleased. In fact, they asked to order more. The food here was unbelievable. We had the edamame, dumplings, and spring rolls, as well as the pad... More

Being vegetarian, I often find that I only have a couple choices when going to a restaurant. The Green Elephant offers a delicious array of vegetarian dishes. All meat-eaters I've ever brought were hesitant at first, but have always ended up loving it. Don't let the no meat deter you! As a Portland native I have been to many great... More

I ordered a red wine called Plungerhead which was very good. I ordered 2 appetizers. The Summer fresh rolls and the soy sticks. I loved the soy sticks. They were spicy and very tasty! My main course was Panang Curry. I ordered the 3 out of 4 spicyness! Very good. I'll definitely be back!

Whether you are vegetarian or just occasionally enjoy eating vegetarian, you will enjoy both the atmosphere and the food at this chic little vegetarian bistro. My very favorite dish there is the pineapple fried rice--absolute yum! They play hip Indie music, the servers know what is in all the dishes, and they use very interesting combinations of spices and herbs... More

My husband and I dined here with another couple and enjoyed the inventive cuisine. Neither of us are vegan or vegetarian, so it was fun to try food we wouldn't typically make at home (although we do make our own curry dishes). The combination of fresh ingredients and the way the flavors were masterfully woven into each dish made for... More

Asian inspired restaurants are not one of my go to choices but a friend and I decided to give lunch a try at the Green Elephant and we thought the food was excellent. We tried the dumplings and the edamame for appetizers and greatly enjoyed both. The stir fry with vegetables and tofu was delicious. Perhaps what I haven't enjoyed... More

This lovely little restaurant in the Arts District had an advantage with my gluten-free wife and me. We had eaten at a sub-par Thai restaurant in Maryland the week before. So when we tasted this wonderfully fresh, creatively-prepared vegetarian food, we felt like we had found a home. The Fragrant Coconut Soup was excellent. My wife had an excellent peanut... More

My friend and I are not vegetarians, but we decided to try the Green Elephant based on excellent reviews. The food, atmosphere and service were wonderful and I just wish we could have spent more time in Portland to visit the restaurant again. We plan to look for similar restaurants in NYC where we live.
