Clam shack for locals

Although I live in the area, I had passed by 100s of times. We recently were out and were in need of lunch .... so perfect timing. Very rustic but clean. Lots of parking and close to waterfront. Had an issue with fries; they immediately made a new batch for me. Fisherman's platter was very good.

The place is a dump and the food is at best mediocre. Go somewhere else to enjoy Maine lobster or clams.

This is a roadside setup with a great big sign that lures you in. The prices are out there so you know you have a chance to avoid the tourist markup that comes with the fancy places downtown. We check it out for lunch and we go away happy. The fried clams are big and juicy but the fries that... More

Yes, it's funky as a Clam Shack in Maine! And the locals like it like that! They're near the port but the prices are no where near what you'll pay at the tourist joints just a bit closer to the wharf. But to each their own. Some prefer cloth napkins and fancy flatware. So be it! At Benny's you'll find... More

This place is just nasty. The fried clams were over priced and the worst I have EVER had. This place needs so much help. What they really need is a Bulldozer...stay away!

The side road Rte. 1A restaurant with the slogan "Famous Fried Claims" is a terrible place to eat. We stopped by seeing live lobsters shop near this restaurant. After seeing the live lobster shop, we walked in this place and thought we should try if they offered fresh seafood. We always love fried clams. We ordered fried clams and fish... More

I cant speak for the rest of the menu but we thought the lobster rolls were probably the WORST we have ever had. There was so much mayo that it was just soggy, watery, mushy, soupy yuk.

Fish not fresh, overcooked, restaurant DIRTY, never to return!!! Looking for some fresh Maine seafood. Read some reviews and wanted to try. It was without a doubt the worst fish and chips I have ever had!! Husband had clams that were very overcooked and not fresh. We have been all over Maine as well as New England visiting various fish... More

Ate there today. Over cooked almost burned clams cooked in old oil. Will never eat there again and have eaten there a couple of times in the past.It has been going down hill for a couple of yr. Appears to have hit the bottom. STAY AWAY and go someplace else on Commercial St.

This place is a mile down the road from all the downtown restaurants on the wharf. The place is basically outdoor seating with a cool kind of clubhouse type facility. The lobster roll and cole slaw are unfricking-real. Super good. Go on a day when Becky is working. I have never met such a nice person. Especially in a restaurant.... More
