Tapas in Maine

I love tapas style restaurants and was glad to find one in Maine. My husband and I didn't order any of the entrees, but shared about 10 of the tapas plates amongst the both of us for dinner, which was a good amount of food. All of the plates were great, but the one that stands out to me was... read more

We were greeted and seated promptly. Despite a near empty dining room, we sat at our table for 15 minutes before anyone came over. Waiter was pleasant but did not know details about preparation and ingredients. Overall, very pricy considering portion sizes. Whitefish, or is it a white fish? We were never given the answer. $25.00 for a small piece... More

My fiance and I went here for brunch. We sat at the bar in front of the kitchen and it was really cool to watch them make the food. You could see their passion, it was like watching a bunch of artists. It is loud and everyone there was between 25-40, so definitely a "hip" place. It took a looooooong... More

Instead of waiting in line for an hour at another restaurant down the road, we wandered into 188 with minimal expectations. We were delightfully surprised at how wonderful the breakfast. I opted for the scramble special and a side of fruit. The scramble was very good but the real start was the beautifully displayed fresh fruit. No fruit from a... More

We've eaten at Local 188 three times over the past few years, and each time we've had good food and prompt, friendly service. Always an interesting menu.

Ended up here after another place was too busy. Glad we did. Original combinations. Like a bar, bistro and coffee house rolled into one. Eclectic decor. Interesting art. Kitchen in full view. We sat at the counter and watched the chefs cooking. Artistry at work. A well oiled machine. A couple of hiccups in service, but nothing major. Very comfortable... More

Went for Saturday breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. The lactose free burrito was actually very tasty. Beans, spinach and eggs with a nice hot sauce. The scramble with , mushrooms and greens was very good and the potatoes done well without being burnt. The homemade sausage we ordered never came until we alerted our server twice and it was somewhat... More

Chefs should never have on the menu dishes they can’t execute properly. There I said it. Properly cooked paella is a thing of beauty. Done right the rice is al dente, with a crusty base on the bottom called “socarrat.” It’s considered the best part. I never order paella at a restaurant. I make it at home, outside, under a... More

Went with a group of friends. I'd say the atmosphere is a strong point. The vibe, decor, and layout are nicely done and conducive to varying party sizes. The waitstaff was courteous and available but not obtrusive. The food was good. I had deviled eggs which were nice. A little strange that there were only 3 1/2's but nice. Not... More
