Wonderful Diverse Menu

A delightful, varied menu, offering food for everyone. Tapas (small plates) were wonderful, enough to share, or a few small plates would easily make a meal. Would have rated this a five, except that our wait staff couldn't/wouldn't accommodate my need to switch out the entrée from the... read more

Nice place, with a great bar that has delicious cocktails. Food was good, but a little pricey for what it was.

I have been in to Local 188 several times. One thing can be great, the next not so much. Portland and Maine are known for great local resourced ingredients, especially seafood and world class chefs. The wee anchovies -5 on the tapas were not impressive tiny not the usual robust Boquerones, not even a bite. The risotto cooked correctly, but... More

We visited the Local 188 recently on a Sat early evening. We wandered in during happy hour. The bar was full, so we sat at the bar stools in the back that looks onto the open kitchen. We enjoyed 2 happy hour cocktails made of Blood Orange Vodka, simple syrup and splash of club soda w/ a lime slice. They... More

Dinner with the parents for the second time here. After navigating the menu (a bit challenging for those not familiar with tapas), we settled on the Steak Tartare, the Flatbread with Hummus, the Spanish Tortilla, and the Braised Short Ribs -- and a salad. Plenty of food for the three of us to share, and all delicious. The Steak Tartare... More

I have mentioned Local 188 in a few of my other reviews but was amiss to not have given them one! A staple in our Portland restaurant "diet", local 188 has good brunch, fabulous fresh made donuts (I have been told by my husband as they are not gluten free), yummy potatoes bravas and other tapas. We typically sit at... More

We walked in and knew we were in for a treat. Great tunes, open floor plan (including open kitchen to watch your food being cooked) comfy seating and lots of smiles to be seen (both patrons and servers). Small but solid menu. Nice strong coffee. My egg scramble with mushrooms, goat cheese and fresh herbs was scrumptious. One of my... More

I love tapas style restaurants and was glad to find one in Maine. My husband and I didn't order any of the entrees, but shared about 10 of the tapas plates amongst the both of us for dinner, which was a good amount of food. All of the plates were great, but the one that stands out to me was... More

We were greeted and seated promptly. Despite a near empty dining room, we sat at our table for 15 minutes before anyone came over. Waiter was pleasant but did not know details about preparation and ingredients. Overall, very pricy considering portion sizes. Whitefish, or is it a white fish? We were never given the answer. $25.00 for a small piece... More

My fiance and I went here for brunch. We sat at the bar in front of the kitchen and it was really cool to watch them make the food. You could see their passion, it was like watching a bunch of artists. It is loud and everyone there was between 25-40, so definitely a "hip" place. It took a looooooong... More
