We liked the Wine Cellar enough on New Years Eve 2013 to book it again that night for the following New Year's. In July we received a call from Caiola's asking us if we still wanted the Wine Cellar because another group was interested in reserving it. We confirmed we still wanted it. We called on December 29th to confirm... More

In a search for an Italian restaurant in our travels to Portland, ME, I came across Caiola's as the #2 ranked Italian restaurant. After dining here, it should be the clear cut #1 ranked restaurant. First, it's the type of place that one might drive by and think "not very appealing" from the outside as it's very ordinary looking and... More

This is just the sort of place you want to have around the corner from you. If I lived in Portland this would be my upscale homey-spot to eat at on a regular basis. The atmosphere is quiet, relaxed and inviting. And the small wooden bar welcomes the lone diner. My first experience was the paella and it exceeded my... More

Gorgonzola stuffed figs appetizer opened up for a delightful relaxing meal on a cold winter night. My skirt steak entree was tender, juicy and delicious. The young waiter (bearded guy) was polite, attentive and professional. House cab is very good.

We had dinner here after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. So glad we did! Food was sensational. Atmosphere warm and personal. Service splendid. We stopped some locals as we were looking for the restaurant ...they were so happy we were going to eat here because the knew the food was so awesome and they wanted us to love their city.... More

Caiola is a friendly, homey, European style of a small intimate space with attentive service and staff.A great refuge on a recent cold November evening. However the food is tired. They pride themselves on a daily changing menu. I have been here twice, and until there's some attention paid to the menu, it is possibly my last. Looking through the... More

We were led through a cozy front dining room, the kitchen (eyebrows raised) and into a back room where there was privacy abounds; two rooms and about 6 tables each. Our server was delightful and engaging, explained the specials clearly and was quick to bring us a nice bottle of French Red. The food was very good; simple and straightforward,... More

My husband and I were visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Portland, Maine and were celebrating our anniversary with them. They took us to Caiola's for dinner. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it was fairly empty when we arrived, but even with rain outside, the place filled up. I can certainly see why. The food and service ,... More

We stopped in for a meal late Thursday night. The menu is great with lots of intriguing dishes. We had appetizer of prosciutto and another of some kind of sweet potato fritter. Both were delightful. I had one of my favorites, paella. Great fresh seafood with a smoked chicken thigh and some chorizo. Very delicious. We had a nice bottle... More

After going to Caiola's on and off for several years, I have come to realize there is not a better restaurant in Portland, which says a lot in this town. My wife and I have never once had anything less than a wonderful meal, served by friendly, knowledgeable wait staff, in a small friendly setting in Portland's West End. From... More
