Very intimate. Sauces display the talent of a superb chef. I tasted my wife's entre of Chicken Marsala with a side of rigatoni and thought it was the best. The Marsala sauce was so rich and flavorful and the sauce on the rigatoni was superb. The quality of the San Marzano tomatoes really came through. I enjoyed my sea food... More

On a recommendation we tried Caiola's for the first time. We were escorted through the not-so-clean kitchen to our table. (Should have taken that as a sign as other reviewers have mentioned this.) The waitress was disinterested in us, as well as the other tables she was servicing. Our appetizer, Little Gem Lettuce with Bacon, Oven Roasted Tomatoes and Gorgonzola... More

We chose this restaurant in Portland's west end (a new area to us that looks a lot like Cambridge, MA) because it was listed in David Buchanan's book TASTE, MEMORY (featuring the local food movement and resurgence of heirloom fruits and vegetables) as his favorite neighborhood restaurant in Portland. Included in our party were two "foodies" and two picky eaters... More

We had a nice meal at Caiola's: good-very good food and pleasant service and ambiance BUT we have to echo an earlier review which questioned sanitation practices at this restaurant. We were seated near the area where bread is prepped for the tables. Several servers were cutting the bread and putting it into baskets with bare hands--the same servers who... More

Best version of Chicken Marsala we have ever had and that takes into account a lot of restaurants. This place was just wonderful.

We had an excellent meal at Caiola's. We were there for dinner on a Wednesday night. We enjoyed the eggplant parmigiana, beef and pork ragu with Orecchiette, and the hake (fish). Also, the caesar salad with oysters was very good. The desserts were yummy. Very friendly service, small restaurant so call ahead for reservations. Located in a residential neighborhood near downtown... More

This was our second trip to Portland and we made it a point to go back to Caiola's. The food was very good. Small restaurant - make sure you have reservations.

Caiola's is a gem of a little restaurant. After having an amazing brunch one Sunday, we decided to have a family dinner after our elopement in South Portland. Caiola's let us reserve the back dinning room, which was the perfect size for our group of 20+ people. We decided to just use their typical menu and let our guests order... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by the Inn Keeper at a B&B that my wife and I were staying. We didn't have a reservation, but I would recommend having one. We were lucky to have been brought through the kitchen, "goodfellas style" and ended up in the second dining room. It was so quaint and the food was off... More

Just what the reviews led me to expect. Small, felt like a neighborhood place. Service was excellent. Food was very good. Not a place I would rave about but I would very definitely go back in a flash. Excellent combination of quality and price.
