I grew up in the Portland area but never went to this bar in my early 20s. I was invited during my late 20s to a wedding reception on the quaint 2nd floor back patio, which was, to be honest, pretty awesome. That said, the bar (on both floors) itself has nothing much going for it. It's pretty much your... More

Decent place. I went for brunch on a Sunday morning. The corned beef hash was great, lots of beef, good taters and taste. The mimosas were good too. The drinks were cheap, but the food kind of pricey for a breakfast. The service was slow and the waitress was surly. She could not have been less interested in us. The... More

This is truly an Irish pub. It has very good pub food. I have to laugh when I read peoples reviews of places like this. They go in get pub food an expect to receive 5 star restaurant quality. It's a pub. That being said it is very very good. They have a great selection of beer, and the service... More

You can't miss it in the Old Port, the big red painted brick building with the colorful parrot painted on the walls. It's location near the Convention Center makes it the logical choice to kick off a hockey game or concert, and the Sunday Irish jam session is always a good way to spend a cold winter afternoon. It's an... More

A good bar. Very open. Lots of light. Really friendly bar-tender and good soul music playing on the radio. Oh and a dog hanging out in the bar. Always a good sign. Not a bad option for a drink.

We stopped here on a Sunday late morning after visiting the art show on Congress Street. The bartender was really friendly offering suggestions of local attractions including the Flea-for-All. This was such a cool place that we never would have found otherwise. The $2 Bloody Mary is really tasty and could really be a problem if I lived to close... More

On a recent business trip, a colleague I was traveling with introduced me to the Brian Boru on Center Street of Portland. Our visit was on a Sunday, later in the afternoon. The BB sits by itself on Center Street which makes it easy to find. And if you still can't find it, look for the old, very bright red... More

After having had a terrific experience at Brian Boru in December, my wife and I went there for lunch on 4/24.. It was a very different experience. First of all, the chicken and mushroom pie, which was thoroughly enjoyed on my last visit, has been discontinued for two months, although it is still listed on their menu. I have had,... More

Decided to bring a friend to Brian Boru for the first time. Did not get a chance to show him the upstairs (private party) but the bar was relaxing. We found the bar cribbage board and had a relaxing time over a few beers. Always a stop in the Old Port.

I have been to Brian Boru many times over the years but this is the first time since they brought in a new chef and new menu. The new menu is significantly better and I had trouble deciding what to have for lunch on a cold winters afternoon. The Bangers and Mash looked really inviting as did the Shepherds Pie,... More
