First let me say that we have had great meals at Gritty's in Freeport, so we felt Gritty's in Old Port would be the same. The beer is fine....the meals were not so fine. It was busy, so our table was less than optimal, but we chose it, so that was our fault. I asked the waitress about the turkey... More

Came here from out of town because friend told me to go here. The bartender was not that helpful he didn't seem familiar with the types of beer. The food was pretty good though. A lot of people were there it is defiantly a place to go if your in Portland.

Just went in for the cask beer. It was trivia night and lots of fun rowdiness! Cask beer was terrific! There was a brown and a bitter. Food looked good but we had already eaten.

Walking around Portland I saw this place and thought it would be great to have lunch, have some local brew and fare. The waitress wasn't very friendly and service wasn't very good. A good thing was the New England clam chowder, I also ordered the haddock sandwich, though the bread wasn't very good. I tried their IPA and found it... More

The waitress was funny and had some pip to her. Unfortunately, the food was not as good. Good beer and a cool place to watch a game, but the fries were awful. It was if they were cooked a day before and put under a heat lamp for later. Nachos needed to be cooked through a little more. Certainly has... More

I lived in Maine for many years and always enjoyed going to Gritty's for a burger and a beer. Their selection of beers is excellent and the food is hearty. The place is always hopping in the summer and will be packed on Friday and Saturday nights. So, if you're looking for somewhere on the quiet side don't go then.... More

This was our first visit. The location is great and the atmosphere is very relaxed. We were hoping for a nice selection of draft beer but were a little disappointed that they only had five draft beers available, and there were no seasonals or wheats. But, we were pleasantly surprised with the good bar food. We had one meatloaf sandwich... More

This was my second visit to Gritty McDuff's. It is a nice place to sit in a casual bar atmosphere. I have found the service to be consistently friendly. On my last visit I tried the chili (which I wouldn't recommend--the cook misses with this one); however, the cornbread is fantastic and if the only way to get the cornbread... More

Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Place was virtually empty, yet it took forever to get service. We ordered off the specials of the week menu and after some time, our server came back to inform us that they were out of most everything it took to make the specials, so order something else. She never smiled or offered... More

This is the pub you Brits have been searching for in the US! Excellent range of beers on draught; including one that tastes just like Harvey's Best in Lewes, E Sussex, UK. Nice crowd, wood everywhere, beer tasting. Near to all the sights and shops of Fore Street.
