Portland is full of fantastic friendly people and delicious microbrew beer. Go for the beer stay for the eye candy

This was not our first time to Gritty's and it did not disappoint. We headed here as soon as we landed and enjoyed several beers and some of their chowder. They are one of the oldest microbreweries in Maine and have a great selection year round.

The local brew-pub options were delicious. The stout and pumpkin ales were group favorites. The bar easily accommodated our large group. I preferred the downstairs portion as it was sort of like an old English pub, as opposed to upstairs Cheers-like feel.

I have had Gritty's beer several times and always wanted to visit the restaurant. I finally got that opportunity and it did not disappoint. The Beer: I had the stout, IPA, and the brown ale and they were all delicious. The brown was probably my favorite. I also enjoy their Halloween and Vacation beer but did not sample them at... More

We came here for a couple brews, found some good beers, including the Halloween beer. They had a live band which sounds pretty good and had a lot of people singing. But as it gets later, the crowd seems more of the college type, and I guess I'm getting too old for that (31)! Probably would have liked this place... More

Gritty's was one of our highlights of the afternoon we spent exploring the shops and streets in Portland. You gotta try their "Smoked Pork Sweet Potato Fries" OMG-SG!! The staff was outstanding and Ales speak for themselves. Don't leave without getting a can of Pixie Dust!

Still have a soft spot for this place but, after a few years away, enjoyed the most recent visit as much for the nostalgia as the reality. Had a seasonal special (Halloween ESB, very nice!), but food was just okay. Definitely prefer at lunch and late afternoon to late night (as a couple other reviewers noted, takes on a different,... We didn't eat there- we were told by a friend to check it out. Great looking place, very "Bostony". We had great service, and friendly bartenders. There was a 3 piece band in the corner that was killer. About 10:30 though the place started to take on a very douchey atmosphere- the crowd, not the bar staff. Friday and Saturday... More

The bartender was great, he allowed me to try several beers before finally settling on a mixed drink because all of the beers were much to bitter for me. Also, I had plain chicken tenders that were really good: crispy, hot, and very moist. Would go back.

I'm not one who typically writes poor reviews - look at my previous 11 - I'm getting no enjoyment out of writing this review, but FOR YOUR INFORMATION - Waited 20 minutes for the worst pint I've ever had in Portland - the Pub Ale tasted as if it was conditioned with dish soap. I was accustomed to thinking Gritty's... More
