Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-five years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

Very Nice Beer Selection

Really wide beer selection! This place is a local favorite and a fun place to have a few beers with friends. They do have a menu but we didn't eat anything so I can't say anything about the food. Upstairs and downstairs the place was packed with mostly 20- and 30-somethings so it was a little loud.

We visiting Gritty McDuff's as part of our food tour and received a cup of clam chowder. It was good enough we decided to go back and try it one night for dinner. I had shepherd's pie. It was dry and bland. I asked for gravy to help moisten it a bit. My son had a special haddock burrito. It... More

We stopped in for some drinks and wings at the bar. They have a nice selection of their own local craft beer on tap. I tried the Ale and the IPA and both were very good. The wings were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of heat. We will stop in here again on our next visit to Portland.

Ate a late night meal here, cheese steak sub, clam chowder. Both were excellent! Great prices for food and beverages. The live band was a plus!

I have been to the Gritty's up in Auburn several times. So when I was in Portland, I went to find the original Gritty's location. It is a nice place with a huge bar where you can sit all around it. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about their beers. I like their Scottish Ale and the Maine's Best IPA.... More

Gritty's is an amazing bar in the Old Port area of Portland, ME. Their beer is outstanding with a great selection of supporting food. The chowder was good with a side of house made chips. The locals have a mug hanging above the bar with their respective number written on the bottom. Take a trip down to the basement to... More

Gritty McDuffs is a great casual place to dine in Portland. It has a great selection of beers and siders. Food is delicious. I had the surf and turf burger. It was one of the best lobster related dishes I had while in Portland!

We visited Gritty's for lunch after a schooner tour. The food was awesome. We had wings, lobster roll, chowder, and fried fish. Atmosphere and service were great. Sweet potato fries and onion rings were also worth the extra cost. Worth the stop on the beer trail. We only had one beer each because we were on the beer trail all... More

We were looking for a place to eat that was not as expensive as the locations on Commercial Street. We stumbled upon Gritty's and we are so glad we did! The seafood options were delicious and had amazing prices. The lobster poutine made us VERY happy. We also had some sandwiches that were delicious but watch out the fried haddock... More

I was impressed with the beers that they brew here. We had their summer and their porter at our table - both were very good. The food was good pub-food. Quality burgers, sandwiches, etc. Nothing that will blow you away, but certainly fill your belly and make you smile while being there. My only complaint was about the noise -... More
