Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-five years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

Not quite what we were looking for

We took a side trip to Portland to have dinner on our way to Sunday River. We always look for brew pubs and found Gritty on the Internet. Reviews were good so here we are. Nothing exceptional. Food was average at best. Atmosphere... Wasn't. It was early in the evening so maybe it gets better. But... read more

Thank you for the shout out on our pub being a great location for viewing sports events. Watching the Pats there with everyone is a great deal of fun. On these busy days, it's particularly great to hear food, drinks, and atmosphere all worked for you. We hope to see you again soon. Cheers! More

Food was delicious, loved the atmosphere, and our waiter, Alex, was very helpful (and funny!). Food is a good price, too. We would definitely come back if we found ourselves in Portland again.

Stopped in for the first time in ages (used to be a regular stomping ground) and with our young family. The waitstaff was very attentive to our needs and the food never disappoints. Had the calamari and burgers and everything was cooked to perfection. For the beverages the cider was tasty and I had a few Black Fly Stouts on... More

Thank you for the nice review. Reading your comment about it being your old "stomping grounds" brought a smile to my face, as that is the case for so many. We are also thrilled to learn you introduced the next generation to the family side of our place and a great experience was had by all. Many thanks for the... More

Unremarkable however not expensive and the food was OK. Met a friend there for lunch and, well, I wouldn't say boring but I won't say very much fun either. The food was fairly priced and mostly tasty, but is not somewhere I would designate as a "Must Stop" at. If you are in Portland and bar hopping, this spot would... More

We love Gritty's. When we lived in Portland we used to go there for dinner or drinks at least twice a week. So it's from that point of view that I write this review. The food is great and reliable (reliability is one of my most important factors when it comes to food at a restaurant). We love the nachos,... More

This is the go to Brewery experience in thr 'Old Port' with their brewery on a lower lever, bar and dining on the upper level. Good selection of their beer and the usual food from meat loaf to fish and chips. Friendly wait staff all the way from Caribou Maine with great service. Large retail store too if you need... More

We visited Gritty's on a cool Saturday afternoon. Portland was busy as usual and Gritty's was booming. I really wanted a good, cold IPA but it was not to happen here. I am a hophead, IPA lover. I cannot drink anything else. I would rather have water than an ale and Gritty's ipa taste like an ale. Looks like an... More
