we were gonna eat somewhere else that night but changed it to this place and we are happy we did. The restaurant itself is very cool looking inside and the people there were very nice to us during our dinner. The service was good and the meal it self was good also, the lobster /mac apt i got was good... more

Food was tremendous...try the lobster truffle mac and cheese and the flank steak...atmosphere was subdued without being too casual and not too stuffy all at the same time...service was impeccable...save room for dessert, they are worth it! Do not leave Portland without eating here. more

After seeing this listed as the #1 place to eat in Portland - we checked out the menu on their website and were super excited to go there for our anniversary dinner. For $200+ for a meal, you kind of want to be "wowed" and leave feeling like it was a great experience - both food and service. The interior... more

My husband and I love Portland. It is definitely a restaurant town. We thought Fore Street was our favorite (still over the top in our books) until we tried 555. We had reservations atr 6:30 to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. Earlier in the day we took a culinary walking tour of Portland and the guide said 555 wasn't her... more

Highly recommend, extensive menu and wine for pairings. Waitstaff not overly friendly but knowlegable. Would recommend to those loking for tapias style dinning. more

Walked in and realized that I had read about this place in one of my Food & Wine monthly magazines (mainly because they advertised it all over). I ordered the Sunday Morning Breakfast entree and WOW. I ordered 2 poached eggs (med) & no one can ever get them right. Perfectly cooked. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned. The honey bacon... more

The most sophisticated dining experience we found in Portland. Gourmet treatment of local ingredients.... (blueberries, lobster, halibut etc.) Ask for a table upstairs overlooking the kitchen prep area. Professional service, good wine recommendations... more

I am not sorry to have visited 555, however, I would probably not try it again. We enjoyed one outstanding dish, a "grilled Caesar" salad followed by a grilled pepper encrusted dayboat scallops which were over-powered by the vanilla-carrot puree. Additionally we had their famous "Knuckle sandwhich" of green-fried tomatoes with pickled gherkins, squash and lobster all of which were... more

On a recent trip to Portland, my partner and I were looking for a good place for lunch before heading to the airport. We were so lucky that we remembered 555 from the Yankee Magazine 5 best. It was great. The atmosphere is great and the staff very friendly. The food was wonderful. We had the cheese plate with a... more
