On a recent trip to Portland, my partner and I were looking for a good place for lunch before heading to the airport. We were so lucky that we remembered 555 from the Yankee Magazine 5 best. It was great. The atmosphere is great and the staff very friendly. The food was wonderful. We had the cheese plate with a... more

Have eaten here many times. Food is always great and service is wonderful. Great drinks and great wine selection. Had a wonderful time several months ago when Gabriel Rucker from Le Pigeon came to town and cooked a tasting menu. 555 is always consistent and the food is top notch. Great job more

I had such high expectations for this meal. Based on reviews and popularity, I thought this meal would blow me away. Unfortunately, the food was a huge letdown. Overall, the pros are: - Excellent ambience. We were seated upstairs and the lighting and environment are pleasing and romantic. It's a busy restaurant though--lots of waiters zooming by you every 10... more

On a Sat. night in early June, 555 was far from full. My wife and I were seated immediately, though we'd turned up a bit before our 7:45 reservation. Not having done much scouting, we both took the tasting menu, with two substitutions: one, the scallops as "savoury plate," proposed by our server, and another one, prosciutto-wrapped figs on a... more

Great Brunch!! The menu had a lot of variety everything from Grilled Cheese Sandwiches to Scrambled Eggs. I noticed one of the brunch entrees had lobster added to it and the waiter noted that they use local when available. Nice selection of brunch cocktails. The service was very attentive and not overly so, that you could enjoy your meal. The... more

This restaurant is a gem on downtown Portland's Congress Street. I've not had a better food/service experience at any other Portland restaurant. From the moment we sat down the entire meal seemed almost orchestrated. It was truly and amazing dining experience. The food was excellent as well. I highly recommend this restaurant. more

This place is really great. we stumbled upon it a few years ago for brunch, it was great then and was great again tonight. Nice touches, small add-ons that are not expected, reasonable wine selections, local produce, interesting imports, new daily deserts, prix fixe in perfect portions of their best sellers. Wait staff are attentive but not burdening. cheese plates... more

My wife and I dined at Five Fifty Five on March 2. We were taken to the upstairs dining area which we both thought was nice. However, if a person has respiratory problems they might want to stay on the ground floor due to the cooking smoke. My wife only had a grilled caesar salad (w/O chicken) because she wanted... more

Went to Five Fifty Five again for the third time recently, and while I wanted to be a fan from the beginning, my experiences have gotten continually worse. First trip: Waited forever... not their fault of course, I should have made a reservation. Got the truffled mac and cheese. Too much truffle oil... per usual. Overall good. $32... not worth... more

One of the top two restaurant meals in my life. We were welcomed at the door like family. Having skipped lunch and shopped all afternoon, we were starving so we opted to skip the tasting menu for fear that it might leave us hungry. This was a mistake as five courses of menu items proved tough to finish and, trust... more
