The scallops here were honestly the best thing I have ever eaten in my life. The chef at 555 is a masterful artist with a pallet so rich and complex that I felt like I was visiting a grand gallery of flavors throughout my meal. We ordered the 5 plate tasting menu to be able to experience as much of... More

While visiting our daughter in college up in Maine, we decided to drive another hour to visit Portland and specifically to eat at 555. We had heard about this restaurant from friends who had happened upon it while traveling in Maine over the summer. While we didn't go for the tasting menu, as had been advised, we all had fabulous... My wife and I opted for the 5 course tasting menu and the wine pairing. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed each of our 5 courses. Likewise, each wine pairing was expertly done. Quite possibly the best meal I have had and that is saying something! The only negative was the closeness of the tables and the noise level. We had... More

Get the tasting menu! The creative American cuisine is outstanding. Service is good and the wine and cocktails are both very good too. Highly recommended and we'll be back.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable five course dinner at 555. One salad with arugula was excellent and the other was only fair. We both had mussels that were exceptional especially the sauce. My peppercorn crusted scallops were spectacular in quality although only two were on the plate with potatoes, veggies and a special sauce. My wife had... More

Arriving late from San Antonio, we were gratified to find the 555 could seat us for dinner. We were upstairs over the kitchen and received excellent service along with the fine cuisine. I heartily recommend the foie gras provided by Hudson Valley. Superbly seared and presented. Here, we were gratified to find a little better selection of wines by the... More

We managed to get a late reservation one Sunday in October on a whim and were hugely pressed. The atmosphere and ambience was subtle and redolent of a quality restaurant- if you can get a table on the balcony and you can watch the chefs hard at work- and the food superb: I had the hangar steak which was magnificent... We dined here tonight and I have to say it was ne of the best experiences in a restaurant EVER. And that includes restaurants in Europe, Asia and North America. Jerry, our new waiter, was so on top of his game it was like he had been there since day 1. Autumn soup was off the charts good. Carpaccio was... More

I eat at 555 about twice a year and am always blown away by the food: the fresh ingredients, creative combinations and presentation is always top-notch. This visit was no exception. I did not give 5 stars because the service was not at the usual level. There were no back servers, and the wait staff seemed to be stretched thin.... More

Food was very good, particularly the seafood selections. Everything well prepared. The room is a bit noisy, but manageable. I have to agree that the staff are not overly pleasant, but not rude either. The service, however, was excellent and nothing to complain about, just nothing to rave about either. Would definitely go back.
