Nice place for a quiet stop

If you like good microroasted coffee, but don't like multinational chains, this is your choice. They also have cold drinks (Odwalla, milk, chocolate milk, energy drinks) and, of course, iced coffee and tea.

We liked to visit coffee roasters when travelling and this is one of the best we experienced in New England. They have a nice variety of different coffee, including nice blends. We bought quite a few bags of beans, the El Salvador and Costa Rica beans were very nice. Still enjoying it now just wish it was closer to home.

Stopped in for a bag of beans after trip up from Boston-- excellent location in Portland, easy to find, parking on the street, and a free cup of coffee when you buy a bag. Eclectic, and a nice change of pace. Will be back for sure.

Visited on my first trip to the city and wasn't very impressed. Ordered a latte and muffin "for here". Didn't offer to heat up the muffin and served the latte in a to-go cup. Muffin was good. Latte was ok--I probably wouldn't go back.

I asked my concierge where the best coffee in Portland could be found and he suggested Coffee by Design. It wasn't bad but it wasn't the best coffee I've had. The service was great. The shop was fine. the coffee wasn't bad. It just wasn't as good as I was expecting. It was solid.

We've been here before the Labor day and tasted their donut first before I experienced the Holy Donut quality, brought some also while we were traveling to Nova Scotia, and tasted good too. You have to try their other products too.

I have been a fan of CBD for at least 10 years. Their coffees are excellent as is their selection. The atmosphere is collegial and relaxing. My favorite coffee shop in Portland. Several locations, India St is less crowded than Congress.

The cappucino was delicious, the coffee full-bodied and the nibble choices from Holy Donut and a cupcake bakery rounded out a nice lazy Sunday morning. There were lots of papers to read and easy chairs for comfort without any pretension inside or on the sidewalk. And, the price was right.
