We were recommended this little place by a bartender in Murray's cheese bar in Greenwich village. We were glad we took his advice. A great starter of clams that are the size of mussels followed by a lobster sandwich and crab sandwich. Far and away better than any other seafood we had in Maine. Good beer and a surprisingly good... More

Friendly greeting! Great fresh food. Stuffed mushrooms tasty, slightly dry. Lobster stew fresh and loaded with lobster, missing the sherry but perfect for my companion. Shared the seafood casserole, plenty of food each had a side one salad, one cole slaw; slaw was great home made lite on dressing no carrots! It's small, 8 tables big bar which is where... More

We had lived in Portland in the past, and J's was always a cordial and friendly place. Visited recently and it was still as good as ever. During tourist season, it is very popular, so be prepared for a line. Most of the bartending and server staff are long time employees, which assures consistency. It was a chilly evening so... More

Not fancy by a long shot, but excellent seafood. We had the mussels and lobster rolls, both of which were excellent. Would suggest they don't hand you an individual mayo packet, but other than that it's hard to complain. If weather allows, sit outside on the dock.

We tried A LOT of lobster rolls while we were in Maine. This one was our favorite. The lobster claw cocktail was a great appetizer as well. The wait was a little long at dinner, but we both thought it was well worth it. I hear the lunch wait isn't quite as bad, so maybe try then instead.

This is a hidden gem along the waterfront where the locals go for seafood and where they serve the best martinis. Every time we travel thru Portland, this is where we go. It's a small, intimate place with great music, excellent oysters, and great staff. Prices are generally market value with some specials. Love the king crab leg special! If... More

if you are looking for fresh seafood ( oysters, muscles, lobster) this is the place. It's very reasonably priced and really fresh. You have an option of sitting indoors or outdoors. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the view of the bay.

We had a lovely dinner out on the patio. It was fine dining cuisine with typical Port City atmosphere. If you are looking for privacy or nice linens this is not your place. We had excellent appetizers, local beer and two different lobster dishes. The Seafood Casserole had so much lobster as well as scallops and shrimp. The hubby loved... More

I gave this an "average" rating because nothing overly stood out during our visit. The location of the restaurant is very cool if you sit outside. The inside is dive bar but in the most complimentary way. The Bloody Mary I ordered was very good and the beer selection was both local and vast. The service was very friendly and... More

We went there the first week of August. I asked about the oysters. The bartender replied they are all from Virginia. Well enough said.
