J's gets an A

We had a delightful evening at J's Oyster. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is hopping inside. We had to wait 45-60 minutes for a table. (I don't think they take reservations.) The bar was crowded and noisy but that added to the atmosphere and fun. My husband had the oysters and I... read more

If you find yourself in Portland, Maine then you must make a stop at J's (skip the over priced oysters at Boones!). J's has all the charm and vintage of Maine. Mind you, the bar can get tight and narrow in the evening but the service is welcoming and friendly. This is the place you can get Maine meals that... More

Great food, really good service and a good variety. Outdoor eating an option in the summer. The restaurant got really crowded when we were there, but I never felt rushed or "encroached upon" by other diners. It's a great, friendly place!

Not a lot to say. First place whereI started eating oysters. Now I love them. Food overall is amazing and couldnt be fresher. Drinks are strong and prices are more than reasonable. One of my favorite hang outs anytime of the year.

This place may seem a little "divey" to some, but trust me their seafood is second to none in Portland (which is saying something!) They have an excellent seafood sampler appetizer that let's you try a bit of everything. I get it every time I go to J's. I highly recommend eating here at least one during your visit.

If you want a true, ancient, Portland seafood experience, look no further. This is as local as it gets. There are places where you can see the ocean through cracks in the floor, and lord alone knows what the kitchen looks like (it's probably fine).the food is incredible and it's just too much fun. A must for any oyster afficionado.

Local bar/restaurant on the Portland harbor. Great clam chowder. Have a bucket of steamers and a local beer!

Great deal on amazing oysters! My dad even tried them for the first time and loved them! There can be a very long wait during the summer/ busy season so get there early to get on the list. Very lovely to sit outside by the ocean@

Courtesy of Anthony Bourdain, I had to come this restaurant during my trip to Portland. The first night we came my hubs and I ordered the entire lobster and a bucket of muscels. I was so impressed with the food and service we came back the next day for lunch. For lunch we ordered the lobster roll and it was... More

J's Oyster is located on the 5 Portland Pier and came with excellent reviews. This is basically a low key, packed bar serving tons of oysters. Searching out a snack to tide us over for a late dinner, we searched out this location. After finally securing a beer, it took awhile until we were served the oysters, mostly because of... More
