We stopped in on a very cold night in January walking there on the advice of our hotel. Had also heard that J's was popular with locals as well as tourists. It was one the many of the Lobster Rolls and chowder we tried on our 12 day tour of New England. At best our food was middle of the... More

This place is very small and made us feel a little claustrophobic. During the middle of the day on a Saturday in January we still had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, so I can't imagine what the wait times are like during the peak of tourist season. We were pretty underwhelmed by everything we ordered even though... More

We had some time to kill in Portland before heading up the coast, so I did some research about places to have lunch in Portland, and I came across an Anthony Bourdain video featuring J's. He raved about the steamers. Not being from the area, I had tried steamers a few times and wasn't impressed, but we decided that if... More

Stopped in for oysters and lobster stew and I wasn't disappointed. Ok, I wasnt thrilled that the oysters were from VA but they were very good. The lobster stew was creamy and well flavored without being overly thick. It was also full of lobster meat. One of the best I've had. I managed some steamed mussels too - in garlic,... More

Our visit here was nothing short of amazing! If your going for ambiance it's not the place for you but for fresh authentic seafood at great prices then you have to try J's!!! It was top on list of best seafood in Portland aside of the Lobster shack! We sampled a little of everything! Def a must try!!

I have eaten here often and recommend it when people come from out of town and everyone I send there loves it. Their seafood classroom is the best loaded with all the seafood u r looking for and lots of lobstah. Their steamers are nice and cleaned not gritty like some places. I also tell people it is very rustic... More

This place is in Old Port and attracts a lot of tourists, but there's a lot of crusty locals as well. True, the shuckers don't separate the oyster from the shell, but this is not a big deal to me. The two of us shared a bucket of steamed clams, appropriately served with a broth for rinsing, NOT eating, and... More

Does it get any better than beer and fresh oysters? Visited J's based on the suggestion of our hotel. Very pleased at the quality of the seafood. Our 8 yr old ate an entire bucket of Maine pissers by herself and wanted more. Fantastic!

We visited old orchard beach for three days and were encouraged by the locals to drive 20 minutes north to this great little restaurant on the harbor. It was so good, that we went every night that we were in Old Orchard. The value is beyond words as is the quality!! You will not be disappointed !!!!!
