Skip the more touristy locations nearby; this is the best choice. Pros You can tell by the packed bar and few remaining seats when you walk in that this place is good. The oysters come with real horseradish and homemade cocktail sauce. The steamers were great. So was my scallop casserole which had a little honey in it. Seated at... More

Fun atmosphere, nice employees and decent food. It is more fun to eat at the bar and chat with Everyone. They have decent oysters, clams and lobster rolls. It is nothing fancy but a great local spot.

this is a a very very small bar. A throwback working waterfront bar that makes some awesome drinks. I love going here with friends but don't go with a large group because it is small inside and gets crowded. The raw seafood is the way to go food wise. It does get very packed so be prepared for a wait....

If you like oysters, this is the place to definitely visit on the Portland waterfront!! It is not fancy! A bit rustic! But delicious seafood! Most of the seating is around a big bar that goes around three sides of the modest building, with a few tables at the harbor end of the building. Sitting up at the bar you... More

I love the feel of this place but I hate waiting an hour for a table! The inside of this place is fair at best so you must wait for an outside table. There are only 5 of them so the wait cane be long. The menu is small but the chowder and oysters are great and the view of... More

J's gets a very good for its unpretentiousness alone. Grab a drink and some oysters and enjoy its offbeat Darkness on the Edge of "Tide" mahogany-esque ambiance. It's down, it's dir-tay – but a real-life sort of place where both lawyers and fishermen frequently stop for a beer and a bite gets good rating despite not offering any gourmet luxury... More

You want to try a local seafood place? Well this is as local and sea foodie as you will get. Seafood galore so you must like fish. On the harbor but not great views. Just a great old establishment and it looks it.

J's Oyster is a no-frills hole in the wall place with food that is unexpectedly delicious based on the look of the restaurant. As a local, this is one of our go-to places for a wonderful lobster roll, lobster stew or a special sandwich of the day.

This is one of our favorite stops in Portland! We've never had a bad experience with staff or food. Only negative is this gem has been discovered by others so there is sometimes a wait for a table to get in!

This place is COOL! I like to find the true essence of the area when I'm there, and this offered that experience. The food was really good as well. Of course, you have to love oysters, and they offer them several ways. I can't wait to go back!
