We are from the Midwest and saw this place on TripAdvisor. We dropped by around 7:30 on a Wednesday night and there was a crowd waiting to eat at an outdoor table. So we went in, ordered some wine and spotted a couple paying their tab on the far side of the bar. Eating at the bar was great. The... More

We were excited to visit after hearing about them on tv but boy where we disappointed! The oyster prices have dramatically increased which was clear from them being altered with a pen on the menu..$10 for 6 oysters?? $18 for 13! Used to be $1 a piece. My crab roll was bland, the service was poor. My sister liked the... More

A couple of years ago, my husband and I visited Portland and made it a point to have lunch at J's Oyster, based on positive reviews on Tripadvisor and Yelp. We liked it so much that we stopped for lunch on our drive home. J's is a mostly "Townie" bar where sailors, fishermen, businessmen, locals and tourists hang out. We... More

Nothing fancy but really good food, lobster roll was the best I had in portland. Wish we went there more often on our visit to Portland. Sitting outside was very nice!

Locals told me it's a favorite and now it's one of mine. Great, great fresh fish, totally unpretentious atmosphere, just great, great food. Had lobster salad as well as raw scallops. It was large pieces of lobster in a small salad with cole slaw and potato salad. People near me saw and had to have it as well. Service good... More

I wrote a review last year in which I lamented the change in how oyster's were being prepared ahead of time and stored shucked, served from a refrigerated box. I have revisited Jay's on several occasions since that time and am happy to report they have returned to freshly shucked product prepared and served as it should be. Great seafood,... More

First night in Maine and this restaurant was a hit - no wonder people are standing outside waiting for a table! I will stop on my next trip - Yum!

My wife and I visited J’s and a few other restaurants during our July 6-8 first ever visit to Portland. I really liked this place because it had a no frills local feeling to me. I went there three times and found the staff not only friendly but also very helpful providing tips on other attractions and restaurants to visit... More

Very friendly and motivated staff, we got an instruction on eating clams ;-) The lobster was just DEEEEELICIOUS and the place is cozy-buzy.

Entrance door window was dirty. Plastic Menu was also dirty and sticky with fingerprints. While waiting outside it really wasn't pleasant harbor dining. No windows in restaurant made it dark. Didn't actually eat there after seeing this. Choose another place.
