Pretty great food!

The food was really good. The oysters were a little to sandy for my liking. You can't beat the prices.

The oysters are yum but not above average for Maine. You can get much better oysters elsewhere for about the same however with a much bigger YUM-factor, that said, it is still worth visiting (many times). The steamed mussels are very, very good, the beer cold and variety. The staff can be a little gruff but that's ok, I mean... More

Great lobster dinner! I went to Portland for beer and lobster and the lobster was great. Try the Maine Brew Bus Tour as well for great beer.

The lobster corn chowder was ok but $17 there and only $7 in Bar Harbor. I muse say , however, the bucket of steamed clams was a real treat and worth the price. This place is a short walk fro the Cruse Line dock and it you are there go for it.

It's a bit of a dive right on the water...we watched a loon do some fishing while we drank one of the better Bloody Mary's I've ever had (nice and spicy). The mussels are delicious and the steamers are just as they should be. It's a place for locals and the lines are long so go early. It's fresh food,... More

What they lack in atmosphere they make up in taste. The oysters, clam and fish chowder was tasty but I personally prefer my chowder a little thicker. The oysters were nice and fresh.

This is classic New England seafood as close to the sea and fresh as it gets. I did the lobster roll. It was very good. They have a super oyster bar for those who like them. Only enough seating for maybe 2 dozen people. Be patient and enjoy.

Simple, pure lobster and amazing local brews. No pretense here. Just belly up to the bar for some fantastic local fare. Take in the conversation, enjoy Maine cuisine at its best. Say no more. We will be back.

We were in Portland on a cruise and spoke with a local in a shop downtown and asked a goof place to go and they recommended J's Oyster. They had the best lobster roll ever! Everything was so delicious. We had New England clam chowder - fabulous. The lobster roll was so good - big chunks of lobster and the... More

Read great reviews and we weren't disappointed! Oysters melted in mouth, don't believe the wait time as we got a table in half the time. Small place, busy, delicious food, and reasonably priced. Next time we come will be before they close outside deck. Location is perfect on main street in Portland.
