First time visiting j's oysters and well worth the wait ... Oysters run out fast so if u are gong for them get there early ... Had the oyster sampler , 1/2 dozen oysters and the lobster roll ... Everything's was fresh and the lobster roll was simply amazing ... Love the fact that they fry nothing there ... Small... More

Always busy, always fun & low key. We take all our visitors here - cheapest oysters around - usually 1-2 varieties. Great fish sandwiches & one of the few who make fish chowder - more authentic than clam.

The lobster roll was ok. It was definitely stacked high with meat. The steamers were amazing, and you could tell they were fresh. The atmosphere is very local bar/dive. But they are an excellent place to visit!!

This place is a must stop if you want a true taste of Maine. They have classic food that never disappoints. We have been here every single time we visit Portland and this most recent time we went twice. They remembered us from over a year ago and that is service and for me almost as good as the food.... Great seafood (oysters, haddock, lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams). Fast service despite going on a busy Saturday evening. It's cramped on the inside but was totally worth it and I would go back again!

From the start the staff was welcoming and friendly! My husband had never tried raw oysters before and they insisted on giving him a sample, and he liked it. We had a great meal and a wonderful time at a very fair price!

I had a dozen delicious oysters and the crab cakes were outstanding. Being from south Florida I appreciate good seafood. I liked J's so much I took one of their stickers and it is on my car!

I'm a sucker for local dives and this is definitely one of those. J's is the no frills Maine coast to a T. Friendly staff and seemed like a place locals frequent...lots of character. But it is extremely cramped and a dive in every sense of the word. Usually the food is awesome in that kind of place and I... More

We had a delightful evening at J's Oyster. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is hopping inside. We had to wait 45-60 minutes for a table. (I don't think they take reservations.) The bar was crowded and noisy but that added to the atmosphere and fun. My husband had the oysters and I had the scallops.... More
