Nice local Italian place for a quick meal at a reasonable price.

We were looking for a reasonable lunch place before seeing a show at the Merrill on Saturday. The relatively low rating on TripAdvisor (300 of 500) did not deter us. We weren't looking for gourmet, or white cloth -- but a place for some solid tavern or Italian food. Anthony's suited this... read more

Anthony's is a friendly, family-run restaurant on the edge of the Old Port District. The food is the real deal and very reasonably priced. Just to give one example, they make the only classic Italian submarine sandwich that I've been able to find anywhere north of Boston's North End, East Boston or Revere, Mass. The sub rolls are better than... More

If you're looking for a delicious no fuss place for a hearty meal, then this is the place for you. It has a warm family run feel and the staff are the nicest on the North East Coast. We had the meatball Italian roll with cheese. Absolutely delicious! Just what we needed on a cold winter day. Great prices, hearty... More

I've been a customer of Anthony's Italian Kitchen for about 20 years. I first started eating there in college and right away, I loved it. The employees are always friendly, the food is always delicious and the owner, Anthony, is a genuinely nice person. I moved to ME from CT and had a hard time finding "real" Italian comfort food... Convenient location for downtown Portland businesses. The entire family is very friendly and they remember your face. Lunch sandwiches are consistently delicious and quick. Their daily specialty calzones & pizza are interesting and delicious.

I've heard that their pizza and sandwichesespecially are good but we went for dinner. Husband had the spaghetti and Italian sausage. Quite good. I had chicken marsala. Unlike any I've had before! Chunks of breaded chicken with chunks of ham and mushrooms. Almost no sauce and I couldn't taste any marsala. Husband asked for garlic bread. "No problems! " Dinto... More

Found this eatery in one of the local tourist map - " winner of the last three years cheap eats". We went on a Tuesday night and couldn't find a place to park. It's downtown Portland ;on the street parking or parking garage. We drove around 20 minutes before finding a metered spot 2 blocks away. We arrive at 7:15... More

My husband and I stopped in here today for lunch...We were pleasantly surprised. We had dined here several years ago in the evening for the theater performances and it was very good...the cuisine and the entertainment. Lunch was delicious. I had the Boston Italian and it truly tasted of my Boston favorite spots for subs. Extremely fresh bread...fresh meats, tomatoes,... More

I rarely write a subpar review but I was surprised by the stellar recommendations this place had as compared to its food. The positive: the place has a bit of a quirky ambiance to it, set in the bottom floor of a building with an old movie theatre vibe to it. The seating is typical of a NYC pizzeria, nothing... More

I love this place for lunch, just have never been there for dinner. Nice salads, good soups, and geek pizza. The crowd is a mix of Portland HS kids, lawyers and judges from the nearby courthouse, and others in the old Port area. The prices cannot be beat, and Tony, the owner is one of the warmest, generous, and most... More
