Unique Dinning Experience

For a unique dining experience, try this place. The restaurant is totally open, almost felt like I was sitting in someones kitchen watching them cook dinner. A bit pricey, but a nice place for a special 'date night'.

This ranks as our number one restaurant in Portland. The building is rustic and quaint - a converted factory/warehouse? The kitchen is in the middle of the space, which adds to the interesting ambiance. And the food - the food is out of sight. The menu - two sided - has a myriad of choices - something for every palatte.... More

My husband and I were lucky enough to get a reservation at Fore Street and had a fabulous meal during a one night stay in Portland. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive and the meal was fabulous. We got the chocolates to go and shared them with the kids when we got back to the hotel and even the white... More

I ate at Fore Street several years ago and remembered the mussels. Visited again last summer and ordered them again and they did not disappoint. Everything from the service to the wine to the food is topnotch, but with a vibe that is laid back and cozy and warm. I wish it wasn't such a challenge to get in there.

Close to the harbor, well walkable, quite busy restaurant with a daily changing menu. Great selection of appetizers, nice variety of fish as entree (meat available too) and a standard set of sides; good wine selection. The caveat: the entrees are on the expensive side, though they mostly require additional sides. (Also, almost every entree contains some sweet ingredient). We... More

Heard this was the best restaurant in Maine . I was in Portland for the day so I decided to give it a whirl. The restaurant opens at 530 and people line up at 430 to put your name in, kind of wierd. I waited outside for 25 minutes the doors open and we make our way to the hostess... More

By far the best food we've had in New England, and rivals restaurants of it's class in New York where we live. Everything is cooked with wood fire, from the oven to the grill. The Mussels were heavenly and like none that we've ever had before. Each course was cooked to perfection, with a great sensibility for bringing out the... More

Excellent. Location of hotel to shops along Fore Street. Walkable to and from places of interest. Bring your sneakers. :) Cobblestone can be a bit to navigate in shoes not made for same.

First of all, book way ahead! We booked about 3 weeks ahead and were lucky to catch a cancellation. We set the pace early on for our meal - slow and easy. However, it ended up being a 2.5 hour meal because our waiter didn't come by our table often - but when he did, he was very friendly. The... More

We were actually headed to J's Oyster house and couldn't get a parking spot near there. The lot at Fore Street had an open space so we grabbed it and headed in there instead. The hostess advised us that the wait was approximately 2 hours for a table. We decided to head to the very packed bar, grab a glass... More
