Sam Hayward's Fore Street Restaurant is a Dining Destination

It was Chef Sam Hayward's article in Fine Cooking (June/July 2015) that led us to stop for a weekend in Portland before heading to a Family Reunion in Bar Harbor, Maine. It took a second or third reading of the article before I realized he didn't even mention his own restaurant. His tips were right... read more

We just finished a delicious dinner at Fore Street. It came highly recommended by a friend from Portland and our hotel. It is in a great old building and has an easy urban vibe. The food was all fresh and well prepared. I started with the roasted cauliflower and vegetable salad. It was very tasty, if a little heavy on... More

From its simple yet hip entrance on Fore Street to the open kitchen with the one thousand degree wood fired oven, Fore Street is a very special place. Fore Street is an active, casual, packed, fine dining establishment. A true localvores heaven with magnificent produce and mushroom selections to go along with special fish and meat dishes. We were so... More

Excellent menu, and great wait staff. Noisy, but still comfortable. Most people enjoy the "warehouse " atmosphere.

Make your reservations early for this amazing eatery. The chef here dishes out the most tantalizingly scrumptious fare to rival any of the best restaurants in this NYC foodies list of favorites. The wait staff, the servers and everyone else associated with our experience were all so professional, friendly and accommodating. Trendy yet elegant decor for the casual as well... More

We walked in (Tuesday evening) and waited only 15 minutes to eat at the bar, which we often prefer anyway. All the staff were very professional, if a bit jaded. But that's understandable because they serve hundreds or thousands of people daily. Our order was taken quickly, and the first dish came even more quickly. But we held to our... More

Great restaurant to enjoy charcuterie. Mussels were plump and delicious. Entrees were small considering price point. Server was very knowledgable and accommodating considering we were seated shortly before closing time.

The food was excellent, well worth the wait but would recommend making reservations to eliminate the long wait (2 hours for us). The food was so flavorful, best scallops ever! My husband had the salmon and loved it as well.

My wife and I were excited when we made our reservation at Fore Street after reading about the awards and the slant of the menu. The room and staff were pleasant, the bread from Standard Baking was outstanding. We ordered the smoked and chilled fish sampler for starters. We should have been told it included raw. The dish was only... More
