Based on a friend's recommendation and glowing reviews, my husband and I decided to try Fore Street. We called for reservations, but were informed the next available was two weeks out. However, a third of the tables are reserved for walk-ins. As a result, we decided to take our chances and showed up at 8:00 on a Friday evening. Upon... More

My wife and I had dinner here and it was just amazing. We arrived late without reservations but they were able to accommodate us. While we waited we had drinks at the bar which was really cool and comfortable. It is very laid back casual environment with dimmed lighting. This was one of our favorite restaurants. The kitchen is right... More

From the bread made on the premises to the locally grown ingredients Sam Hayward continues to impress. With an all new menu , for the most part, we look forward to a culinary treat each time we return. The salad and charcuterie were perfect ! We don't see sweetbreads on a menu too often and the kitchen did them justice.... More

I ordered the wild king salmon (3.5 dots), which I had been craving all summer and talked my husband into having whole black Atlantic sea bass (5 dots). Lucky for me we were sharing. We started with pan-seared sweetbreads with hyssop marinated peaches and wood oven roasted pork belly--both excellent. Service was top-notch, and our server was quite knowledgeable about... More

Fun that you can see the kitchen and the walk-in fridge. Also nice that it's mainly local ingredients (so is many Portland restaurants). But we ordered the roasted chicken for my son, and it was undercooked. Like jelly raw chicken. Not 'just cooked'. For an expert kitchen staff, you'd think roast chicken is an easy dish, so not good. The... More

We dined here last night. It had been several years since our previous visit and we had forgotten how comfortable and warm the dining room is. We had a 5:30 reservation and were the first to be seated. The restaurant quickly filled to capacity and was filled with, as my husband described, "a lively noise level." We both had a... More

This restaurant came highly touted to us by friends and family who had visited there while on business trips to newly-enhanced Portland. We were really looking forward to it, but were severely disappointed. At first glance, we were hardly welcomed by the hostess/maitre d', who couldn't be bothered greeting us pleasantly or escorting us to our table. Admittedly, it was... More

Fore Street has won slews of cooking awards and accolades on this website. We are happy to report, based on our experience, that it has earned them. Fore Street is in a warehouse-looking building along the edge of the main visitor area in Portland. It is an easy walk from the hotels in the central part of town. It's between... More

We went to Fore Street over this weekend with some friends. I was very eager to try it and happy to be able to get in as a walk-in. The space is great. Really comfortable, warm, and funky, with an open kitchen. The service as knowledgeable and attentive (but definitely not "quick"). Our appetizers were lackluster. A peach salad with... More

Simply one of the best meals I've ever had. From drinks, to appetizer, to dinner, to dessert, everything we had was really outstanding. The ambiance of the space was comfortable and the service was highly competent.
