We had dinner in late May. The food was decent - not bad, not great. But not worth the money for Portland. Service was so-so. One big drawback was the smoke. While having an open kitchen set-up may be pleasing to the eye for some patrons, it was incredibly smokey and greatly detracted from the meal. (My clothes still smelled... more

Having read many wonderful reviews about Fore Street, we booked our reservation several weeks in advance. Arriving early, we asked if there were any tables available. We were offered a table near the open chef's cooking area. Our server was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we could not enjoy our dining experience as the temperature climbed to unacceptable levels - it... more

The food was unbelievable, service amazing and friendly and unpretentious. I am usually not a much of a meat eater, but felt inspired by Fore Street and ordered the pork-- it was cooked to perfection, but in my eyes was enough to feed a small family! (I am sure that's a good thing for most folks). My husband had the... more

It's one of the restaurants I visit whenever I visit Maine. It's an institution of Maine. The best local producers finds their produce in Fore Street's menu. They serve the best roasted Banger's Island Mussels. more

I'll start by saying I had about one of the best meals I've had in a long time (definitely doesn't top Five Fifty Five on Congress St. though) at Fore Street. I was pleasantly greeted upon entering and given the time a table would be ready. This was nice, versus a time frame. I sat in the bar with my... more

What a beautiful restaurant! The open kitchen was a lot of fun to watch. We were there for a 5:45pm reservation, and the beautiful sun illuminated the entire restaurant. Our server was prompt and we never had to wonder where he was, all of our needs were anticipated, thus made a stress-free dinner. For dinner I had the Atlantic Cod... more

While the service was exemplary, the food was not. The mussels were plump, but the almond butter sauce needed more garlic and salt and pepper. The pork loin was huge but was overdone in some spots and not cooked enough in others. Even with extra gravy, it was tasteless. No wonder they have salt and pepper on the table. The... more

After eating at Fore Street on several occasions I was GREATLY disappointed on my LAST visit. The beef (medium well) was not cooked; the grains with greens-amounted to less than a 1/4 cup with about 3 small green leaves-no bigger than a sage leaf! more
