Oh so close

60th Birthday weekend. 2 other couples. All of us love to cook and enjoy great food. Chose this place due do it's more "traditional" fare. Called 2 weeks in advance, only open reservation times were 5:30 or after 9:00pm. They did confirm reservations that morning for 5:30pm . Had asked if anything... read more

I haven't been to the Fore Street in a few years; there are so many great restaurants in Portland. My husband and I were guests of another couple, and we were happy to be there, but the food was overpriced and kind of unexceptional. I had the chicken, which was roasted. It was okay, but not amazing. For 30.00, it... More

Every dish will surprise you with artfully crafted food combinations and since the menu changes every day it will continue to surprise no matter how often you come back. They do an excellent job on their seafood dishes. Lots of tasting fun in the appetizer section. The main dining area has view to the hard working chefs who created their... More

Delicious food in a rustic, friendly environment. Fish is fresh and the atmosphere is pleasing with the brick walls and low lighting. Reserve way in advance!

I visited on a Monday night in early February while in Portland on business. I had no trouble getting a table even without a reservation. Until my table was ready, I sat at the bar. The bartender was polite but not very chatty; however, he poured a strong drink. When my table was ready, I paid the $14 (plus tip)... More

This is an old restored building across from the waterfront, reservations needed in advance and a very special menu which changes daily. there is a nice atmosphere and a selection of foods that you will not find in many other restaurants. Worth a trip to see what it is all about

My husband and I ate at Fore Street for the first time to celebrate our birthdays. It was amazing, worth the hype, worth the wait and worth the cost. Our waitress was wonderful and informative, made good eye contact and was attentive even on a busy Saturday night. THe food was amazing, good portion size and presentation but the dessert... More

This popular restaurant is a must for your Portland visit if you like generous portions of perfectly prepared and served American cuisine. From salads to desserts, you cannot miss at Fore Street. In what must be close to 20 visits, I have never been disappointed.

I usually get beef here, and am never disappointed. Seafood is also good. Lots of local sourcing - the ultimate is that breads supplied by the restaurant downstairs (Standard Baking). Consistently excellent service, nice atmosphere. My only gripe is that it is hard to get a table. Reservations are a must. Their Web site talks a lot about the availability... More

Food is amazing in preparation, taste, quanity and quality. Atmosphere is lively and the old building is very charming! The bar is always jam packed! This was our 4th time and we were not disappointed. This is the first time we had our grandchildren with us and they were treated respectfully and really enjoyed their meal. We will be back!
