Started off with a scallop roll. It was amazing! Service was prompt, helpful, friendly and attentive. Why only a 3 rating? The katsu don was awful. Overcooked, poorly breaded pork cutlet with some sort of inedible grey egg glob on top. This is not how katsu don should be served and was not on par with other dishes and the... More

it's official, I no longer go to Sapporo. With the exception of one or two servers, my wife and I had what has to be considered less than stellar service (a real turn off) which actually ruined an otherwise 'OK' lunch. Wish it wasn't so because I want to come back (and while food is always my top criteria -... More

I had an early dinner here recently with friends during the Old Port Festival. It was my first time here. My friends had brought their dog with them, and we wanted to sit on the outside deck, so this worked out well (because pooch was not allowed inside). He was actually not even allowed inside the deck, but we were... More

I have lived in Portland for 20 years. I love sushi. I eat out frequently. It's not only the freshest seafood from the best local vendors, But also the perfection with which they cook the rice… And they offer vegetarian alternatives for everybody (including my daughter)! Fantastic fresh fish quality, presentation that can compete with the food network… And bottom... More

Everythimg is better than your average sushi restaurant. The seaweed salad is the only one that Ive ever liked. There are great prices but not too cheap to make you question the quality.

Had a chance to eat at Sapporo on a recent visit to Portland. Highly recommend the food and it has good ambiance and great service.

Ok, here's the quick take from someone who has been - on and off - to both many many times. I will (still) say Benkay has the better miso soup to begin with. While I am known to both staffs, both staffs I will say are ALWAYS friendly and attentive. That's a wash and I am equally happy at both/either.... More

We went here because my wife was have craving for Japanese. Easy to reach right on Commercial St. in the Old Port. Parking out back of the restaurant is free. Ambiance is OK, greetings are lukewarm. We both started with miso soup which I thought was a bit weak but delicious nontheless. I had teriyaki beef with scallions. The meat... More

Growing up in LA am well acquainted with mom and pop sushi bars as well as the trendy ones. Sapporo is of the former type: nice but not great decor, solidly good fresh sushi. We had sashimi. And several rolls. All quite good. Tables are separated by screens which give a sense of privacy. Staff was attentive and courteous. Some... More

There should be a rating between "Average" and "Very Good"--this restaurant falls between those two. The saki was nice, the service was good, the sushi was fresh and good. The sweet potato sushi was the only disappointment--it was a tiny sliver fried crunchy and flavorless.
