The people serving at Sapporo are surely nice enough BUT this last time - and it will be my last time - I was given a bottle of soy sauce which was encrusted with stains plus the bottle was sticky. No self-respecting Japanese restaurant would ever provide a diner with something like that. There's just no excuse for that. My... More

We often eat AT Sapporo. We sit and have a beer and enjoy the restaurant and its welcoming atmosphere. However circumstances occasionally call for 'take out', and we tried out Sapporo on a wintry November night. Selections were discussed over the phone with attentive staff. Food was made and ready very quickly. The price only a bit more than the... More

I arrived at the restaurant a bit late most had finished their meals and I was not sure that they still were serving but they did. The service was friendly and pretty quick. The dishes were very tasty and the portions huge. I had ordered a dragon roll as a starter and I was quite taken by the size. The... More

Hamachi Kama, Beef Tataki and the best Toro ever. Very friendly atmosphere, sit at the Sushi bar and exchange fish stories with the chef.

We were seated right away, but food took forever. Salad came after all the food was served. Huge wait between appetizer and entree. Nothing spectacular about the food either. Dumpling soup was too salty.

The people are not polite, at all. The server was rude. The Manager was even more rude. 25 minutes from seating to a drink. We tried to leave and this big guy told us to stay. Dry rice, smelly fish for sushi. We did not eat. I refused to pay. The big guy comes up and I offered to call... More

Sapporo has been a favorite place to visit on the Portland waterfront since my daughter and I first visited over 10 years ago. About a month ago, she and I went and were disappointed. The service was slower and more lackadaisical than usual, and the fish just didn't seem as fresh. A couple of nights ago I took my nephew... More

Started off with a scallop roll. It was amazing! Service was prompt, helpful, friendly and attentive. Why only a 3 rating? The katsu don was awful. Overcooked, poorly breaded pork cutlet with some sort of inedible grey egg glob on top. This is not how katsu don should be served and was not on par with other dishes and the... More

it's official, I no longer go to Sapporo. With the exception of one or two servers, my wife and I had what has to be considered less than stellar service (a real turn off) which actually ruined an otherwise 'OK' lunch. Wish it wasn't so because I want to come back (and while food is always my top criteria -... More

I had an early dinner here recently with friends during the Old Port Festival. It was my first time here. My friends had brought their dog with them, and we wanted to sit on the outside deck, so this worked out well (because pooch was not allowed inside). He was actually not even allowed inside the deck, but we were... More
