A MUST visit when in Portland!!

We stopped in after dinner to check it out. In the basement of an old brick building also has outdoor private patio service. More like a beer garden. The inside is like a "Rathskeller". Buddy and I are beer snobs and this was a great place to chill. It is too bad they don't offer beer flights, so we were stuck just having 1 beer. Erika was very nice to us.

. . . when the weather is warm, the sun is shining and you want a chilled beer! My beer-geek daughter is impressed with the wide-ranging offerings, but I just love that they offer several

Great beer selections (no mixed drinks here!) and a very small selection of food. The cheese plate is a great option to snack on with your beer(s). The bartenders will graciously provide samples of beers you want to try. Lots of local (Maine) beers but also unique beers from US and Europe (mostly). Options include malty, hoppy, sours, low alcohol... More

Great casual spot for a large array of beer. Known more for Belgium style beers but almost always have plenty of styles for everybody. Don't be in a hurry however, as though many waiters/waitresses they do not dedicate areas, so you may go for long time dry and then all of a sudden 3 people will hit you up. I've... More

I thought Novare Res was great. We went ~late afternoon, so didn't experience major crowds. We grabbed a table and had several great beers. The setting is a beer cellar - a bit dark and dank with stone walls and large beams. I bet it's naturally cool in there on a hot summer day. I look forward to going back.

If you are a beer nut you'll have to try Novare. They have an absurdly vast beer selection. You'll be able to try beers you've never heard of and beers you've never seen available stateside. The food is decent, not great, but at least inventive. They offer some interesting choices, but I doubt many people go just for the food.

Been going to this place since it opened. Many aspects have improved immensely but I just don't get why the service has to be so poor. Long wait times, even when it's slow. The staff seem in their own world oblivious to patrons. If it wasn't for the unmatched draught selections I'd tell them to take their $7 beers and....

The beer list was obviously extensive, and everything we had (both beer and food-wise) was good, but the space was crowded and exceptionally loud. Would potentially go back on a less-busy day.

There's not enough space on the internet to capture the awesomeness. The groove-per-capita ratio at Novare is ridiculous. World-class tap and bottle options? Yep. Service so good you'd come back no matter what was on tap? Definitely. One of the funkiest locations that just screams bucket list bar? Of course. It can get a bit crowded at times, sure, but...
