Innovative and interesting restaurant!

Made some last minute reservations and did not regret it. Most interesting salsas I have ever had--smoked cashews ground with jalapenos? Still thinking about how good that was! Great chips. Great drinks. Cauliflower steak with black garlic with a chipotle raisin sauce--wow! Amazing. Boys had... read more

Great drinks. Cauliflower steak with black garlic with a chipotle raisin sauce--wow! Amazing. Boys had carnitas and enchiladas--less unique but still delicious. Service was very good. Only downside was that... More

We were able to get reservations for Saturday night, and went with another couple for dinner. I did find the drinks to be excellent one of the best margaritas I have ever had, Natalie was our server and I thought she was great, not all over you but there and friendly when you needed her. I read another review that... More

Went here for the first time during restaurant week. Got the three choices for $20. What a deal! Had a terrific salad (had a kick to it), whitefish with rice and brown butter cauliflower, and churros with a wonderful caramel/tequila sauce. Oh, and I had the prickly pear...not only was it delicious but it was a really cool color! Would... More

I got the Carnitas de Puerco and it wasn't bad, but not great. For the portion size I got the price was definitely not justified. Our server was nice, but it took quite a while for us to get our entrees. I wasn't keeping exact time, but definitely close to 45 minutes. I probably will not be going back here.

The great thing about this place is that the menu lets you build the kind of meal you may be in the mood for on any particular night. The guacamole is fabulous. The ceviche sublime and the drinks delicious. A great value is the large carafe of sangria. It is perfect for two people. The soups are very good especially... More

It was Valentine's evening and my boyfriend and I could have gone anywhere in Portland but decided to try Zapoteca. Everything from the salsa to the drinks was lame. The watery salsa was over-spiced, the chorizo dip was nothing but a pan of super salty melted cheese with tiny flecks of, I guess, sausage, the signature cocktails were overly sweet... More

The atmosphere, food and drinks at this restaurant were excellent! Very convenient location on Fore Street. A very different and interesting take on Mexican food.

The guacamole was bland and 9 dollars for 1/2 cup and handful of chips was ridiculous. All the food had way too much chipotle sauce with nothing to absorb the oil and peppers causing both myself and boyfriend sever heartburn. My boyfriend order the 1/2 chicken and recieved a 1/4 of a chicken. I ordered the supreme margarita which tasted... More

Watermelon and Habanero Margarita - sweet and hot, not too much of either. Lobster Guacamole - chunky and perfect to taste.Enchiladas Camarones and Puerco won over the Ccarne Asada in diner delightedness though there were no real losers, and everything came back around with the duo of Flan, each one a few bites of dense (more dense than you'd think)... This is not your average Mexican restaurant folks. Shannon Bard is a culinary wizard and puts these amazing ingredients together to create fabulously wonderful dining options. This restaurant should be on any foodie's list visiting or living in Maine. Plus if you like Margaritas... these are the best I've ever tasted!
