I picked this restaurant based on other Trip Advisor reviews and it did not disappoint. I had already read the menu on-line and it was current. There were also daily specials to supplement my expectation. I arrived at noon on Saturday and most of the patrons were there for brunch. As noted in earlier reviews, there was a wait when... More

We were visiting Portland for 2 nights. Our hotel recommended Hot Suppa... The fried green tomatoes on the Eggs benedict was awesome- quality food-not just diner style. The second morning I had their special--Sweet potatoe Hash--done well w/ big chucks of sweet potatoes, bacon, red onion, and fresh kale. Check out the quaint patio behind the building. Awesome!

Service was mediocre. The food was slow to arrive (breakfast). And the food was nothing out of the ordinary. I found a vein in my hash, and all the waitress could say was "yea that happens". In my book that is pretty unacceptable. At least it was made in house, but more care should be taken when making something the... More

By good luck we found Hot Suppa for lunch on a recent road trip through Maine. Our GPS had taken us to a to a non existing restaurant across the street and we noted the people lined up outside, The restaurant is small and crowded and only has about 8 booths of various sizes with a few stools at a... Had been hearing about it for years and finally had dinner there. Was very average. Had the deviled eggs followed by the fried chicken and waffle. There was nothing wrong with it, just nothing about it seemed to justify the hype. They did have a nice little beer list with a couple of interesting selections. I also like that it... More

One of our favorite restaurants in Portland for a casual dinner that's a notch above pub food and a cost notch below the high priced foodie joints the city is famous for. Hot Suppa delivers rich, imaginative combinations of food--pulled pork on mac and cheese for example--that is tasty, satisfying and reasonably priced. Surprisingly easy to walk into and get... More

Interesting mixture of shrimp, cornbread fried catfish and thinly sliced peppers in a cornmeal mush. Different and tasty. My wife had the Fried Green Tomato BLT and raved about it. The sweet potato cubes were also nice.

What a great little place! Nice service, terrific food, nice atmosphere...can't wait to go back! The corned beef hash was so tasty, the porridge hearty, the coffee hot! Nice mix of dinners...alone neighborhood guy chatting up the staff, couples, groups, and families with little kids. Getting there at 7 seemed to be a smart move...by eight it was getting crowded.... This small restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff, and the meal was absolutely worthy of the outstanding recommendation. We ate breakfast here two mornings and everything was wonderful…from the staff to the food. Eggs Benedict prepared to perfection; fresh fruit flavorful; coffee steaming hot; light waffle with fresh maple syrup; grits topped with cheese as good as the South.... More

What a gem in Portland. We had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. We were able to get some hot coffee while we waited, and then the staff was good about refilling. I had a special - sweet potato, bacon and kale hash which was outstanding and my husband had the corned... More
