My wife and I will make the 85 mile one-way drive to the Standard Baking Co. simply because it is the best bakery in New England. There isn't a single item of theirs we've had over the years that we did not enjoy thoroughly. Although their various sweets are delightful, we particularly enjoy their breads. They are simply outstanding. If... More

I am a home bread baker but haven't made nearly as much since I started working in Portland and have easy access to this place! No anemic crusts here! My absolute favorite is the sesame semolina. The croissants are perfection..shatteringly crisp outside, tender & flaky inside.

"Best bread since I was in Paris" 22 year old stamp of approval. And hey, his mom and dad love it too. Haven't met anything here we haven't loved - we pick up treats and bread twice a month. They run out of baguettes regularly so we call ahead to reserve a couple of loaves. This is THE bakery.

Had to be in Portland for a meeting on a cold, snowy November morning. What crazy, post climate change world has snow in November???? Had the brainstorm to kill the 20 minutes I was early by stopping for a blueberry scone and coffee at Standard Bake. Soaked in the smells of the ovens at work, laughed with the people in... More

great baked goods, strong coffee. Line moves quickly. Minimal sit down space, so great to take and walk.

We stopped by the Standard Baking Co. on our way to L.L. Bean and we were not disappointed! The pastries could not have been better, very tasty and fresh. The breads we got and had later were all of great quality and again freshness and taste were superb. It was busy, which makes sense, so while you wait just take... More

The sticky buns are awesome! Scrumptious! No need for margarine....the challah is special and so is the cinnamon raisin bread made only on Sundays. Can get crowded there, so bring your patience and your appetite and all will be delicious!

Sure, sure. The bread is very good. The croissants are just super. But the brownies.......moist, not too sweet, densely chocolate.....some (not me) say big enough to share. Parking can be an issue here. It's not a place to longer. The staff are nice enough, but you really need to move along. Once I have the brownies in hand, though, I'm... More
