Bread well bred

Just one step inside the door and one deep breath and you reach for your wallet. They are indeed the carrier of the standard for quaiity baking in Portland's busy and accessible Old Port. The parking lot is way too small and horrendously jammed, but the bread is a slice of paradise. So park on... read more

It is stretching it a bit to call this a restaurant although you can get coffee and wonderful baked goodies. There are a couple of tables outside in the warm weather and it is a popular spot for a little breakfast. What I come mostly for, though, is the baguettes which are excellent. The croissants and sticky buns are also... More

The best bakery by far in Portland and easily one of the best in the Northeast. It may actually worth the trip from NYC to sample any of their offerings. I echo all the accolades of the other reviewers.

Very good baked goods, sticky buns, croissants and other treats. I LOVE the cookies-chocolate and molasses spice. Yummmmmm.Focaccias, breads and other items round out the menu. coffee is great too. outdoor seating in summer unfortunately not a lot of space for indoor enjoyment of purchases

If you want a real baguette and other pastries, please visit this bakery. It's not a sickening sweet place. The selections are all made from scratch and all good. The baguettes and Demi baguettes are the real thing-great selections of bread. The croissants are made fresh each day. There are morning buns, galettes and the best molasses cookies I have... More

They have the best sticky buns in town! I like the ones with nuts, but they do have buns w/o nuts. There are lots of choices, just these are my favorites. Downside: little parking and no indoor seating due to space constraints.

Absolutely wonderful looking breads and rolls. We were traveling so we just bought oatmeal raisin and molasses spice cookies. They were delicious and the oatmeal raisin had a nice crunch to it - not gooey or underbaked like many bakeries. Wish I lived closer! But then again, it would be too hard to not go there too often!

Warning to the wise - Go Early!! This place sells out because their stuff is SO amazingly good. We were lucky enough to pick up a fabulous Brioche with a light sugary topping and a Pain au Chocolate (Chocolate Croissant to us Americans!). Both were as good as you'll find anywhere. Great folks too.

This place is heavenly. All of their baked goods are exquisitely prepared, amazing ingredients and worth every penny. Love all of their different types of croissants including their savory ham and cheese croissant. They take after the very light and flaky pastry is that you will find places such as bouchon bakery, and their breads come close to rivaling Tartine... More
