Great scones!

I visited this bakery at least 4 times during a 5 day stay in Portland. Great coffee and scones! Definitely sit outside along the railing and enjoy. This place is very busy in the mornings; however the staff is so efficient that the wait is practically nonexistent!

They used to be very good, but have added extra sugar to the baking stuff and now it is a typical American bakery with lots of sugar

It was located right next to the hotel we staying at and we got our breakfasts there. My husband really likes his breads and he could not get enough of this place.

Having lived in France twice, getting a decent croissant in the U.S. is a near impossible task but not so at Standard Baking. Theirs are the real deal: crisp, flaky, buttery exteriors with light, fluffy interiors that will transport you to Paris. If they sell it, it's out of this world good. Seriously. Fabulous coffee too at a much more... More

Sticky buns are the best. The breads are nice and chewy too. The place is always busy especially during the holidays when you can order ahead for family gatherings.

Well worth a detour. Picked up delicious coffee, bread, scones and muffins for breakfast. These folks know what they are doing, and they appear to love doing it. Highest quality ingredients and service - plus cool t-shirts that are hip and reasonably priced. I think it is owned by the same people as Fore Street Restaurant and the quality of... More

Portland has lots of tasty baked goods shops sprinkled around, but I always go back to this place for good breads, GREAT cornbread (I think only on weekends) and great pastries. I'm not sure but I think it bakes the breads used at Fore Street Restaurant located above it. They also serve good coffees, too. We always stop here for... More

As a self-proclaimed bread groupie, I made a pilgrimage to Standard Baking Company. Everything I bought -- organic multi grain mice, raisin loaf, three kinds of cookies -- was delicious and worth the price. It's a shame the staff couldn't have been more friendly.

We come to the area every summer We plan our flight schedule to be sure they are open before we board the Casco Bay lines to the in-laws. The most amazing thing is a multi-seeded, single-serve bread that is simply to die for! This year, the parade of Tall Ships was in Portland along with 100,000 spectators. Unfortunately they were...
