first class croissants

Had to stop by Standard Baking on our way out of town. I had heard that that the croissants were good. We had them for breakfast this am. WOW! they have set the bar very high. The best that I have had in a long time. Brioche was outstanding. The leftovers will be French toast on Sunday.

Usually not in the summer but in the fall, winter and spring, Standard Baking makes a fabulous fig bread with anise. We stock up every two weeks and more just before they stop for the summer. It is delicious toasted for breakfast. The sample baskets this morning had French doughnuts and ginger cookies which were wonderful. My niece and her... More

as a local, we all love Standard Baking. It is a great bakery and has everything you could want. Everything is made fresh daily. If you are in the Old Port of Portland and need a sweet or a fresh loaf of bread (many kinds) this is the place to be!

We go to Standard Baking a few times a week for pan me (sandwich bread), epi's and just about any other noshy glutinous items you can think of. What's more - raisin bread made only on Sundays is delightful and coffee by design is always flowing there - buy a 16oz bag while you are there! While I can no... More

I will drive the 13 miles in to Portland fairly frequently just to get a baguette from Standard Baking. I've tried other bakeries but I'm convinced that theirs is the best.

It doesn't get any better than Standard Baking Co. Been going here for years and never one complaint. Fresh, fresh, fresh that is the optimum word here...once you open the door, you are transported to a bakery in Europe, due to the amazing scents. Recently, after dining at J's Oyster, we headed to Standard Baking, to buy a bagful of... More

I've had some of the best Pain au Chocolate and Almond Croissants outside of Paris in this place. If you want something a little more rich, the Chocolate Cork and Morning Rolls are heavenly. Easy parking, and quick service. As some others have said, the clerks beings the counter are light on personality, but the food more than makes up... More

This bakery is fabulous. We stopped in on a snowy morning for a couple almond croissants and coffee and also wound up with a beautiful loaf of bread, some madeleines, and some adorable lobster shaped sugar cookies. I used to live in France, and the almond croissant and madeleine was as good as any I have had there. The only... More

Best bread in Maine. Scones, croutons, macaroons, and frankly everything baked there are fantastic. Need I say more?
