Today I made my first visit to Miyake, picking lunch since I was driving through Portland at mid day. I was seated at the bar and found Masa Miyake busy carving up an entire tuna into pieces to use in the restaurant. The tail was already off and siting in a plastic tub while he reduced the fish to five... More

Ok, I will start this by saying that I was expecting a great experience. The setting is charming and the service was generally what you would expect from a place with this reputation. We tried to order something that was not on the menu and we were met with surprising resistance. It wasn't anything special, we wanted a simple scallop... More

As a Japanese food addict; this place exceeded all my expectations. The menu is diverse and varied and the service was very good. Our meal started with lobster miso which I have never seen prior to this visit and it was superb. My wife opted for the Teriyaki salmon that was also superbly done - pink, warm and firm on... More

After reading several reviews, we decided to go to Miyake for lunch. After looking at the menu, we had a few questions. A waitress named Kristin came over to our table to take our order. Her attitude towards our questions was appalling. She rolled her eyes, made sarcastic comments and had a general pathetic attitude. I was more than a... More

Awesome food. Attentive service. Came back two nights in a row as too many good things to eat in one meal. A home run.

We have been here several times, and each time the food is amazing. This not the classic Japanese food, but fusion with blended influences from Japan, Asia, France & Italy. The restaurant is small, so busy days, you probably need a reservation. We ate lunch and they close at 2:30PM. So get there before then. The flower arrangements were colorful.... More

I LOVE MIYAKE!! The Maine Lobster sushi roll is the best thing in the world. If you are a picky eater than don't go. Just go!

Can't help occasionally wanting to going back to Miyake for the food, but too often end up frustrated by the service. Last occurrence: lunch one recent week day, three occupied tables and some four wait-staff who seemed impatient to see guests leave. The New York Times had a few days later an article on electronic tablets replacing menus and waiters,... More

The overall experience was less than ideal. We ordered the Chef's Omakase( chef's choice). We noticed that the other clients had an extra dish that we did not have. The staff insisted that the menu changed throughout the course of the night instead of admitting that they omitted a course. We sat in front of the sushi bar and observed... More

By far one of the best meals I have ever had. Got the three course vegetarian meal; it was all chef choice and very fresh based on the week's produce at the farmer's market. A bit pricey but worth every penny.
