More than adequate but not sophisticated

Eating at Peabody's one has to remember that this is country Maine. Eating is pretty early with the bar closing at 8.30. However, food is pretty good and fresh and the service friendly and welcoming. It was more the atmosphere than anything to do with the food. Dining room closes at 8:30, we were the only ones in there at 8. We were concerned about being rushed, they said we wouldn't be and we weren't. A young man and woman served us pleasantly (didn't get their names) and assured us not to hurry. The lounge... More

The food here is delicious, we ate breakfast and lunch here most days at the Inn. The restaurant is staffed mainly by college kids, so the service isn't exactly impeccable, but we also tended to eat quite late when I think there were fewer waiters. The views are beautiful and if the weather is nice, you should sit on the... More

With so few diners, it was hard to figure out what the staff was doing. Tables had obviously been used. We finally seated ourselves on their south facing porch overlooking a garden and the harbor. A waiter eventually showed up, took our order, but the set ups had no spoons for our coffee. Food was good, hot and not outrageously... More

Great food, beautifully presented, with attentive and welcoming service to match. Not cheap, but you pay for the view and the surroundings. Lovely old hotel. Well worth stopping there for lunch.

We were inn guests for four nights. On the third, we decided to have a nice dinner at Peabody's. We made a reservation for 7:15 and came downstairs early to have drink in the lounge. At 7:15 we walked out into the main lobby to meet the hostess. After waiting for a good ten minutes she arrived. She told us... More

Lobster was good, other stuff just "eh", dessert not great. Go for the beautiful harbor view and historic inn ambiance. This is a place trying to be high end but just not making the grade.

A beautiful view, excellent service and very good food. Their lobster bisque is the best I have ever had. The grilled halibut was perfect, the grilled tuna salad was good (but romain lettuce should not be in the description as it is all but absent). The lobster cakes were very good and the accompanying 'warm slaw' enjoyable. I thought the... More

My wife and I choose this location for a special dinner to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The location offered an exceptional view overlooking the water with wonderful decor in keeping with the age of the building. Staff were welcoming and great in every way. Our main server "Nam" was friendly with the love of his job very obvious. Our... More

This was an excellent addition to our stay. The food was well prepared, fresh, tasty and served with style. I had the citrus salmon which was so good I had it the next night too. My husband had duck and thoroughly enjoyed it too. Desserts were perfect too. They can even make a cup of strong hot tea...... A very... More
