When we opened Robert’s in June 2006, we had a certain idea: we could do a version of the big Maine seafood restaurant that was rooted in the tradition of these places, but also inspired by up-to-date food trends like local farm-to-table ingredients and more creative recipes. Owner Michael Landgarten had long been a fan, patron, and student of these large all-purpose (seafood-centric but not exclusively seafood) Maine restaurants.Traditionally, coastal Maine seafood restaurants focus on a large, seafood-centered menu featuring steamed lobster, baked and fried seafood, steaks, burgers, and have a bar, and usually some outside dining. We liked this notion for Robert’s, but wanted it to be a “now” experience – about the best of Maine food. In the Midcoast region, the farm-to-table movement had started long before there was that name for it. Back-to-the landers there started restaurants that sourced directly from local fisherman and farmers. We’re still searching for that ideal blend of traditional Maine, farm-to-table, and what’s best and real in new cuisine. Mostly though, we are guided by our purpose – to make guests happy!

My sons and I stopped here for lunch and a delightful experience! We enjoyed lobster sliders and blueberry crumble a la mode! What a great surprise! We randomly stopped here after a day of driving and had terrific service and great food!

We had our Sunday lunch at Robert's after reading so much about the restaurant in Downeast Magazine and the TA recommendations. It is situated on Rte 1 in Kittery, but it has lovely water views and the new construction and decor make for a really nice atmosphere. The hostess and waitstaff couldn't have been more solicitous and professional. Top marks... More

We went to Roberts today and left feeling all around shocked. This was not our first visit, but we typically stop in for lunch to take advantage of their "BOGO oysters". When first entering the building we overheard a conversation going on behind their gift-shop area that immediately caught our attention, but didn't want to make a fuss for we... More

While visiting Maine, we had to stop for fresh seafood. Robert's was a great choice. The food was great and the people were wonderful. Being from the South, we are accustomed to Southern hospitality. The staff and patrons of the restaurant made us feel right at home.

We visited Robert's last fall on our tour of Maine. It was probably the best dining we experienced. Not fancy. Just wonderful. The steamers in Allagash were amazing. We're planning our next trip to Maine and the first spot we'll drive to will be Robert's Maine Grill. The service was outstanding. Did I mention the oysters? Oh my goodness. It's... More

We have been coming here as a family since it opened. It really is one of, if not the best restaurant in the Kittery "Mall" discount shopping district! Why anyone would bother to go to The Weathervane with Robert's and Bob's Clam Hut(owned by the same person) in the same area I don't know. Robert's always has consistently good food.......fish... My wife and I have known about Robert's and eat often at Bob's Clamshack across the street (same owner). Winter is a bit of a down time in the area. We took advantage of the 50% discount on a bottle of wine. Food was excellent. Table was a bit too small, so we felt a bit cramped.

Nice to hear that you also enjoy our other Kittery establishment Bob's Clam Hut. Our Sunday night 1/2 price bottles of wine is a great deal. I am sorry that your table was a bit cramped. While on a Cape Cod week-long vacation, our kids wanted to drive up to Maine to have lunch (the 3 teenagers had never been to NH or ME, so they can now check these states off their list) ;-) Because we were very limited on time, I had to do my research early and pick the perfect restaurant.
