First, I'm surprised about the comments of how this restaurant is average and implying that they need to up their game. I found the food to be skillfully crafted and flavorful, served by well trained professionals. We look forward to returning. Pro: Everything was tasty and well seasoned with one exception. Mussels were delicious, oysters top notch! Pheasant and Sirloin... More

In most cities this would be considered a really fine restaurant. With the competition in the Portsmouth area, it could use a bit of work on the food. Ambiance is perfect, service is great. Wine is fine. But the food has been better in year's past.

Went here with friends the other night and had a wonderful meal. After going to some restaurants that really challenged you to finish all that was on the plate, Anneke Jans concentrated on the quality rather than the quantity. Appetizers were surprisingly tasty deep fried olives (who knew?) and a nice board with pate and asst. cheeses. I was sorry... More

Went here with my wife and another couple. While everything was okay nothing was special. The best thing was the ambiance and service. Food was as mentioned okay but with all the great restaurants in the area it only makes it to average on all fronts , appetizers, salads, entree and desserts. All okay but average.. Try the Black Birch... More

We haven't been to Anneke Jan's for a while, but had cocktails and appetizers there recently and we were pleasantly surprised. The cocktails are interesting and delicious without being "too creative" . The appetizers all looked great, but we settled on a dozen oysters. They were light and fresh, and perfectly shucked. We will definitely visit again sooner rather than... More

Just returned from a most enjoyable dinner experience. We are blessed to live in an area with an abundance of fine eateries in the Portsmouth/Kittery area. We don't dine out often enough, but when we do, we choose carefully. We consider ouselves "foodies". Plus this was for my wife's birthday. We found Anneke Jans online by reading reviews, and were... We went to Anneke Jans after too long an absence. The experience was consistent, a very well prepared meal in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. My dining companion began with the fried olives, which were very quickly consumed and declared to be perfect. We both ordered strip steaks, which were very rich, and cooked exactly as ordered. Although the pomme... More

Really love the atmosphere at this upscale and sophisticated restaurant in Kittery, Maine. Feels like a city restaurant in terms of environment but with a relaxed and low key approach. The menu is varied and the food is fresh. Best frites imaginable! I almost always have one of the grilled fish options -- delicious. This is not the kind of... More

Our party visited this venue during restaurant week, so it was a bit crowded and noisy, but the food was incredible. I will be visiting this restaurant again.
