4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013 NEW

In a lovely location near the river in Kittery; great decor and layout; interesting sounding menu and specials; just a certain missing care and attention to the cooking and presentation - flabby sautéed sole draped over thickly sauced veg and gnocchi; mushy risotto. Bread pudding is wonderful, the wine list is deep and unusual. I'd go again - I just... More

Two bridges out but fortunately I-95 still up and running--well worth trip over the river to this restaurant. Interesting food, tasted great; portions ample but not huge (yea) and what little I had left over my husband happily finished. Started with carrot-ginger soup, then sole and gnocchi (his: duck confit) and shared desserts with great coffee (individual French press). Will... More

My boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere different. We live in Dover, NH so we frequent Dover and Portsmouth almost every weekend. A co-worker suggested Anneke Jans in Kittery because they had great food...and even better martini's. Wow was she right! I had the best lemon drop martini along with mouth watering beef stroganoff. My boyfriend had the short... More

My husband and I were looking for a place to meet our daughter halfway between Portland Me and Salem MA, and checked out this lovely restaurant on line. It exceeded our expectations in all ways. The environment welcoming, staff friendly and food outstanding. The mussels are amazing and our daughter ordered the vegetarian dish that she found delicious. Definitely worth... More

My first visit to the newly expanded hot spot and we were very pleasantly surprised! The bar area is fab with a great expanded bar, cool fireplace and yummy cocktails. The restaurant is now more spacious but hasn't lost it's intimacy! The food was exceptional although the service was a bit slow, however, who wants to rush a great dining... More

I don't know why I didn't write earlier! I got married in September and had wanted to check out Anneke Jans for quite some time. My best friend/matron of honor and I spent a girls night out the week before my Wedding and had the most spectacular evening at Anneke Jans. The service was top notch and the food was... More

Little hard to find at night but worth it. Food was excellent. The menu is a tad limited but what they have is exceptional. Seasonal menu so some differences from their web page. Service was top notch. Had the FRIED olives for an appetizer. Sooo good...Must have again on the next trip. Duck with grits was very good and the... More

Been there many times and never had a bad meal. The dishes are fresh and creative, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The owners/management seem to really work hard to make this restaurant a very special place to dine. It is a “must try” for anyone living or visiting this area. Looking forward to the new expansion early next year.... More

My husband decided to celebrate our 10th anniversary at Anneke Jan's in Kittery, Maine. He Got duck! Delicious. :) I had rissotto and chicken. Food is awesome and our waiter was very attentive. Great night! Not a cheap restaurant but it is worth a visit in special occasions.

We have been going here on an off for a few years now. We live in Florida most of the year but get up to NE several times a year. We always make it a point to go to AJ's. The food is awesome! Fresh and true New England. We have visited through the ownership change and some staff changes... More
