Great food, perfect portions, beautifully presented

This place has been on my list to try for a couple years. Finally made it last night. What a great place in a very cute little area of town. Nice bar, very friendly staff, outstanding food. Situated on a charming New England square, this beautiful, upscale restaurant has an open kitchen concept. But the kitchen counter is so high, all we see are the heads of the chefs, sometimes seated, looking out at the customers. When the chefs are at work, they are visible only from mid-arm, up; so we don’t really see them preparing the... More

We walked over to this restaurant from Portsmouth and are we glad we did! When I made the reservation I told them we were celebrating an anniversary. They gave us a very quiet table and congratulated us when we walked in. Our waiter was very attentive but not intrusive. The blue cheese soufflé and beet salad were excellent. The salmon... More

It was the last night of Restaurant week and we had the 3 course meal, $29,95. My friend ordered a vodka martini, which was one of the worst she had ever had, bartender added more vodka, my scotch on ice had water added. We both had the blue cheese soufflé with salad greens on the side, very good. My friend... More

A little tricky to find, or maybe it's just me, but totally worth it. Reasonable portions of beautifully prepared dishes. Salads were nice too - creative, fresh and delicious. Great service and ambiance, but avoid the back table by the kitchen at all costs: it is insanely noisy back there. Be sure to allow budget and time for three whole... More

We had some difficulty finding a dinner place that was open. It's out of season in Maine, summer hours haven;t begun yet. We had a late night and didn't make it to dinner until 8:30pm on a Monday night. It's a table cloth restaurant and it was very quite. Exactly what we needed. They were so so welcoming and friendly,... More

We had a loverly dinner at AJs. Our table was not ready despite the reservations. Management took care of the situation very professionally. Despite the fact that they were out of Fried Olives which we heard were to die for, we had a great dining experience. I have to make sure that we visit this great establishment soon.

We love this restaurant......have come here often and are never disappointed! The menu has ample variety, is small and the dishes are very creative. They change their items frequently depending on what's fresh and available. The mussels are always on the menu though and for good reason..they are GREAT. Also, the poached shrimp cocktail is wonderful. Oysters and raw clams... More

Between blizzards, we had a lovely dinner here with a polished wait staff and a relaxing time between courses. One in our party has a gluten allergy, and she was advised throughout our meal on options and substitutions that she could enjoy. The wine list is good, and decent "by the glass" options are offered. The chowder is made with... More
