Down East experience

This was a fun restaurant with good food and excellent service. Lots of seafood available and the dessert was excellent. Seasonal - it closes at the end of October.

Ruth and Wimpys is not only a local favorite (that's how we found out about it) but it was our favorite Maine seafood restaurant. In fact we liked it so well that we tried it 3 times in the 2 weeks we were in the area. Lobster New Fredo and the Lobster bisque were personal favorites. Great outdoor seating when... More

Season ends at end of October. They must be worn out and looked like only 2 servers and maybe not enough hands in kitchen. Our lobster came bright fire engine red. Long ago I learned that one must watch shrimp, crayfish, and other shell fish while cooking. They get tough with cooking and turn red. The cooking pot is out side... More

Made a return trip of 21 miles to get to this restaurant we had passed earlier in the day with many cars outside, and we passed many other restaurants along the way. Nice place, nothing really to write home about. Lots to look at outside, kitchy inside. Read a review earlier from someone who said how there were inappropriate things... More

On a rainy night Ruth and Wimpy's Kitchen was a cheerful and welcoming spot. The food was quickly served, heating platters slightly overcooked. Almost all tables were occupied, so do not take my word for it .

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Bar Harbor. How fortunate. This place is a find. They have an extensive menu and everything looks good. We had clam chowder that was as good as it gets. The portion they call "a cup" was actually a 12 ounce bowl. We had lobster rolls for the main course which were... More

Prices were reasonable but the food we ordered was terrible (when it finally arrived). Service was worse. I'll be dining elsewhere on my next visit Down East.

Found this place on our return from Schoodic Point. Absolutely glad we stopped. I had a goodsized lobster roll with fabulous onion rings that reminded me of tempura they were so light and crispy. We saw a guy picking up 3 blueberry pies to go and decided to try it. Wow was it great! It beat every pie we tried... More

Ruth and Wimpy's was a great find. Most of the places closer to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are touristy and are way more expensive. However, several locals told us to stop here. They said the food was good and also cheaper. The locals were right. The menu had a lot more on it then did the touristy lobster... More
