Gritty McDuff's, Maine's Original Brew Pub specializes in hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-six years of operation. Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty's Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff's Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout, allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates. For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

Trying to eat out in Freeport Maine on a week nite in January can be a challenge. Gritty's was open and they took care of me. They have a good selection of their own brewed beers. Food was slightly above average pub food, Price was good. Seating benches were uncomfortable. The waiter was curt, not very friendly and service was below average. never came to offer water of give additional napkins. Not sure why he was in the service industry.

This place appears to be a local's favorite. Nothing fancy here. Long (sharable) tables and smaller ones too. Superb service, excellent food (but be patient - it takes time to prepare good food) and excellent home brews. We really liked this location.

Stopped here for a late lunch/early dinner and wasn't disappointed. The beer selection is limited but carries something for everyone. Had the Black Fly Stout, which was enjoyable. The wings were large and meaty and the sauce BBQ sauce (made with that very same stout) was tasty. Had the french onion soup (also including the stout, seeing a trend here?)... More

I love Gritty's... the beer is FANTASTIC, the food is perfection. Typical pub menu, fried fish, sandwiches, fresh cut fries, etc. Some nights, they have live entertainment which is often a guy with his guitar but this place will take you back to what bars should be. Very welcoming.

Thank you for describing our pub so eloquently. We work hard to bring the variables together for our visitors and so pleased to learn that we succeeded with you. We try to be "that favorite place" where families or adults can feel comfortable together. Thank you for the shout out on our beer and food. We hope to see you... More

We were in Freeport and asked for a good place to eat. Recommended by a local. Sadly we are sorry we went there. When we arrived the place was crowded and we thought great Our food was just ok and certainly NOT worth the price we paid for it. Would not recommend.

First of all, thank you for the very direct, polite comment about your experience. We're always sorry to learn when a visitor doesn't have the same great experience others do at our pub. Came here with the girls for our annual trip to Freeport. Decided to try a new place for lunch this time so on to Gritty McDuff's. The place was mobbed but there was no wait to be seated. We stayed down town and made the trip here on the recommendation of the hotel. We were told they brewed their own beer and cider. Well beer yes, cider no. Its some brand name cider that is nothing to shake a stick at. The food was horrible and tasteless. Shepard's Pie had no taste at all. Ground beef and corn... More

We went to Gritty's because we were in Freeport for a few hours at dinner hour and were not familiar with most of the restaurants. Once there, we remembered that we'd been there years ago with our teen children. Unfortunately, the wait was very long, the staff too busy and harried to be much more than polite. The food was...
