Great casual stop for lobster stew, chowder and other New England treats. Fuel up here before hitting the shops.

My wife and I stopped by. We normally eat at Corsican. Our first clue on entering the Chowder House should have been the empty restaurant and the dirty tables. If there is no one in the place, why are the tables dirty? The floor was dirty, too. But let's get to the food: I ordered the seafood chowder. Considering the... More

The clam chowder was awful. My teenage son refused to eat it! Lobster rolls were OK. Total for 5 people was $80. A bit overpriced. There must be better in the Freeport village. If you have the time, find somewhere else. I hate to write a negative review for what is obviously a small family business. Nonetheless, we will NOT... More

We ate here for the first time on our annual trip to LL Bean. Our regular place seems to have closed, so we had to find a new one. We Chose the Chowder House just cuz we love seafood. We got the fish and chips and a bowl of Clam chowdah. The fries were a little greasy, but the fish... More

I go for Morrison's Corn Chowder. Everything else is great too!! Give it a try. Very small dining area so you may have to share some seating. Love it!!

Fabulous food and friendly service at this side street Chowder House. Not too hard to find on the right hand side of the street from the main thoroughfare thru Freeport, Maine. As an airline pilot, I try to find something a little different off the beaten track everywhere I go. And this place did not disappoint. I think it's called... More

Now it is called Freeport Chowder House, no wonder I couldn't find a review. When we went in at lunch time there were no customers - first clue. We ordered the seafood chowder because the menu said it included shrimp, scallops, clams and white fish. It was actually a potato chowder with very few pieces of white fish for $8.00.... More

First time, but will not be my last. Coming from a 40 year old Mainer, this place is worth the trip from miles away. Affordable, friendly service, more than generous portions, clean and of course......A+ lobster stew and fried clams. It is a 50 minute drive each way for me, and it is worth every bit. I'll be heading back... More
