Everything perfect...except the horrible art on the walls

The other five-dot reviews say it all. The food, the creative menu, the service, the wine list ... All are excellent by any standard, and exceptionally unexpected in such a lovely countryside setting. But all of that refinement is dented rather strikingly by the awful art on the walls. When we ate at Orwells over a year ago I wasn't bowled over, but our more recent visit was excellent and I can see why it has been so well reviewed. The set three course lunch menu was very good value at £18.50, I started with the celeriac soup which was perfect and my husband had a very attractive dish... More

A quite wonderful meal - the tasting menu was the perfect representation of Orwells' diverse & modern cooking style, and the flight of wines very well matched. From the amazing amuse bouche right through to the sensational pudding, each dish brought a sense of awe and wonder. Affordability and excellent service were the icing and candles on an already very... More

Fabulous evening spent at Orwells! The service was attentive from start to finish without being pretentious or intrusive. The staff were friendly and given that we had an awkward table, one wheat free, one no fish and a birthday, nothing was too much trouble! I've eaten in Michelin and this taster menu was certainly the standard I've experienced there but... More

We visited Orwells Saturday evening for my birthday meal, myself, my husband and my best friend! We were greeted with a warm welcome and a cosy atmosphere. We opted for the taster menu and wine flight! We were certainly not disappointed! The food was first class, stands up to the Latymer at Pennyhill park no problem. The staff serving us... More

Orwell’s never disappoints. Lunch was very good. The set menu beef starter was very tasty and the carrot soup was enjoyed. The main course of Guinea fowl was well cooked and again very tasty. The Bril was light and delightful. With a good desert and excellent wines we had another very enjoyable lunch. Thanks to Ryan, Liam and Kurt.

Food and quality of wine excellent. However the Guinea Fowl was water bathed which makes it tender but kills the taste and the texture. The roast beef was superb the best of any gastro pub or probably anywhere. Lean and tender. Spoilt only by the very slow service. Arrived at 1.30 starter arrived nearly an hour later and the main... We always enjoy our time at Orwells. This time there were 14 of us for my Mum's 80th and they combined great food with friendly, welcoming service. We had the conservatory to ourselves and this gave us a nice amount of privacy without cutting us from the rest of the restaurant. The window looking into the kitchen adds to the... More

Friends took us to Orwells recently for lunch. The food was outstanding, really beautiful. We had the Saturday set menu lunch which was incredible value for money! The dishes were of such high quality and the waiting staff were perfect, made us feel very welcome. Would definitely return!
