We were told this is a popular local spot. We got there a little after 1:00 and there were very few diners. Our waitress was clearly new and inefficient - unsupervised. We sat 25 minutes not offered something to drink let alone order taken. All the while, her visits to the section involved her asking those already eating how they... More

I had steak and my hubby had the scallops. Both were done exactly as ordered and were delicious. A wide variety of home made pies that are yummy including Maine blueberry. Relaxed atmosphere.

The lobster tasted fishy! The lasagna had only a tablespoon of sauce and the blueberry pie had no flavor. The person that ate the lobster was sick the next day. There are too many great places in this area to eat. Do not waste your money.

Stopped in for lunch, based on experiences at Helen's in Machias. It was a big disappointment, nothing like Machias. The décor was like it was from the 70's, and felt old and tired. The service was not good, and the food worse. We had haddock sandwiches. The fish was not nice and fresh, and the batter greasy. I hate to... More

...As it should be! This place just doesn't have it. We tried it and frankly, it seems as though the place is dying. The food was mediocre at best (and I am trying to be kind!) and the service was less than desirable. If you are in this locale, you'd do better to visit Jordan's Snack Bar or the Bangkok

We tried Helen's while up in the Bar Harbor area. I ordered fried clams and fried haddock. The fish was a too strong tasting, certainly not fresh. The fried clams were gritty and too chewy. Would not go back...

Great fish, onion rings and pie. Typical chowders and seafood - mostly fried but excellent. Friendly and highly efficient service - waitresses are veterans.

i have eaten at Helen's in Ellsworth many, many times and have never had a bad meal. My favorites include the fresh haddock sandwich, their signature onion rings and of course the famous home made desserts! Definately stop and give it a try!

I have stopped at Helen's in Machias and am usually satisfied with both the food and the service.I stopped here for the chocolate cream pie as I remembered it being delicious at the "other" Helen's. It was good but wasn't as chocolatey as I remembered it being...in fact it was rather bland. I was disappointed that it wasn't as good... More

My family and I went to Helens for dinner, we had not been there for a while and thought that we would drive 45 min to eat there, what a POOR choice that was! I ordered the combo seafood plate scallops and Haddock for 17.99 plus 1.00 because of the price of scallops being "higher" then normal. The plate came... More
