Has Its Charms

This is a long-time Ellsworth restaurant, and I've eaten here many times in past years, occasionally recently. The food has been consistently decent to good. I don't understand the negative reviews, unless someone's ordered beans--they aren't so good with them. Chicken chimichangas are recommended... read more

My friends and I came into the Mex before seeing some live music down at Chummies. When we arrived we sat at a table by the window for about 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us (there were only three other parties at the time). When our food arrived it was cold and the guacamole was brown and very old. We... More

This is a long-time Ellsworth restaurant, and I've eaten here many times in past years, occasionally recently. The food has been consistently decent to good. I don't understand the negative reviews, unless someone's ordered beans--they aren't so good with them. Chicken chimichangas are recommended (omit the beans). They always bring out a free salsa and chips appetizer with beer. When... More

We waited 15 minutes for a root beer and iced tea, 30 minutes for chips and salsa, then our waitress comes over and, rather than apologizing for the wait and lack of attention, she rudely comes over and says "What's for dinner?" after waiting another 30 minutes for our food to arrive our waitress just drops it off. Doesn't ask... More

Lord knows I tried to like the Mex - I like good Mexican food - but I've given up. The food is simply marginal at best. We went here fairly often when my son was young - the atmosphere is pleasant, wait staff are nice, food can hardly be called Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, there has been no successful Mexican alternative... More

We are local people and have not been to the Mex for a couple of years due to below average food. We went again and I must say this is the worst Mexican food we have ever tasted anywhere (any we have been many places with Mexican resturants)..the food is is doughy and put on a plate and thrown in... We should have checked with Trip Advisor before we went to this place. But seriously, its hard to mess up Mexican food. Whatever The Mex served us, could not be qualified as restaurant quality food. We both ordered soup. The chicken lime soup (the waitress claimed it's her favorite) was basically watery broth heavy on the oregano. It was awful!... More

Black bean soup had a baked rim and was tasteless. Fish taco was a piece of fish in a taco shell, no lettuce, no sauce. Bad food and expensive. Didn't even get the customary salsa and chips. Not sure why it is called the Mex except for the decorations. A good place to avoid even if you are starving.

The menu is a foodies delight. I had the potato leek soup and it was such a nice surprise. Great choice on a chilly night. The salad over rice and beans was delicious, but not really filling. The side of guacamole helped. My margarita was perfect. The atmosphere was fun and up beat. The waitress was helpful and fast. I... More

Prices are high. Never been to a Mexican restaurant that charged for chips and salsa. Food bland. Good thing do not have to return

We have dined several times and the Margaritas are perfection. The fajitas are very good, but I wouldn't say the best I have ever eaten. Many Mex restaurants marinate their meats used in Fajitas. I don't think Mex does this.I would have given them an excellent, except the Fajitas just didn't have the kick I am used to. The atmosphere... More
