Great restaurant for breakfast or lunch ... they do not serve dinner. Closes at 2 pm. Very good food, not overly expensive. Friendly staff. Hard to park on Main Street, but parking available around back.

Very accommodating staff for a large party for breakfast. Great selection, and everyone was happy with their food. I had the tofu scramble (a little heavy on the turmeric), delicious home fries, and a huge side of fresh fruit that they subbed for the toast I didn't want. I'll definitely visit again!

Delicious stop for breakfast on the way to Mount Desert Island. Buckwheat Blueberry Shortstack Pancakes were delicious and good coffee. Great small town feel with antique shops to explore afterwards. A nice, friendly spot to dine in.

We were staying at the Hampton Inn in Ellsworth and had resigned ourselves to eating at some chain for breakfast but we found Riverside Cafe and were so delighted we came back the next day. The decor, ambiance, food and staff were all wonderful. We have friends who are frequently in Bar Harbor and we've encouraged them to try the... More

Based on our meal couldn't figure out why ratings/reviews were so poor - new management is the explanation. I had lunch / pastrami sandwich. Although in the smaller side, Very good and certainly plenty for 1. Hubby had breakfast, he was pleased, and Cinnamon - Raisin bread was so good we bought a loaf to go! Hostess brought a beverage... Dropped in for a light lunch. Service was prompt, but it took a while to seat us, despite the place being less than a third full. There was a decent menu to choose from and a decent breakfast menu too. We had a caesar salad and tuna salad. Both were large portions and very filling and tasty. Overall, there was... More

3 of us had lunch at The Riverside over the Labor Day weekend. Some of the food was delicious and some was not. The service was good. The atmosphere was fun and comfortable. The delicious dishes were the haddock sandwich, haddock chowder, and the vegetarian breakfast burrito. The chocolate cream pie and the salad were o.k. The beef stew was... More

I used to love this place but the last couple times I've been there I just have been impressed. Can't pinpoint it just seems there's always something just not right (and that didn't used to be the case). Food often comes out cold and the butter on the toast does not taste real. May seem like I'm being picky but... More

We needed a place off Mt Desert Island and we found it in the old fashioned part of town. Our hostess got us our drinks and then we waited. When she got to us, our waitress explained two of four waitresses called in sick. We enjoyed the locals and travellers and artwork on bright walls then got eggs, toast and... More

This place has changed hands a lot and so the service and quality has suffered. Of late, however, they seem to be pretty well under control. Good coffee and breakfasts but usually crowded out the door. That's a good sign that the locals like it.
