Disappointed Downeast

We made a visit to the chowder house on July 5. I initially had high hopes when we pulled onto the lot of the restaurant. It looks like it used to be an old fishing or lobster dock. Unfortunately, it was raining so we could not sit outside. With that said, the outside view was pretty spectacular... read more

We come here every year for our lobsters. We have been here just two people and also in a group of 20. The view is stunning!! Sit out on the pier , watch the ferries go by and in August you can see whales. We usually have our dog with us too. Desserts are amazing, but its the lobsters we... More

The place was decent! I traveled to Maine with my husband. We both had lobster in mind. Well we were not let down with the Chowder House! We both had fresh Maine lobster with butter for the first time! We enjoyed the place along with the staff!

Had a delicious lobster dinner and the "fixins" The desserts were wonderful. The mile high carrot cake was "a mile high" and plenty for two. Blueberry pie was great

I have been here several times, and a couple of years ago, the food was superb. The prices are far too high for what you are paying for. The food is only okay. The service is excellent.

We ate outside on a nice day and my dining companions both had fresh lobster that they said was great. I had smoked salmon that was delicious. Our only complaint was the service or lack thereof.

It was a Friday, fish fry it is! The fish was so soaked in grease it was nasty! The French fries had a good taste, but were cold. Coleslaw was pretty tasty. Our men had a lobster dinner. The dinner consisted of a very small lobster, a side of cold fries and an even smaller portion of coleslaw. Guess we... More

I took part in the "Paint Eastport Day" last weekend. The chowder house dock is the place to be!! Pirates, the view of the cliffs and ocean cannot be beat! The staff is friendly and drinks were great! I had dinner there Friday evening. It was a breast cancer fund raiser with"volunteer" waitresses and they were very good. My food... More

We had dinner here 3 times b/c we loved the view out over the water, and felt the simple preparation of seafood was well done. It looked as if a lot of local people ate there. There was a small wine list, and several local beers were offered. Two nights we had a really fabulous waitress, and one night the... More

This is one of our two favorite places to eat in Eastport (the other is the Quoddy Bay Lobster Company at the other end of town). Unlike Quoddy Bay this is a full-service restaurant with table service, an extensive menu, rest rooms, and a spectacular view out over the river to Canada. The food is very good, and my wife...
