Best tavern food, American cuisine, on Deer Isle

We stayed on the island for a week and this was by far our best dining experience. Great charm to the facility, the staff was friendly and helpful and attentive. The food was presented well and just amazing! I had a Seafood Stew in which the broth was so exquisitely crafted I could have just sipped it until the end... More

Dined here during one of the very busy weekends in this area - during the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta in August - reservations are definitely required. However, despite the place's popularity dinner was relaxed, not at all hurried. Staff was pleasant and knowledgeable, dishes were prepared exactly as requested, and were a treat for both the palate and the eyes.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Pilgrim's Inn (reviewed separately, and including a review of the restaurant) and were so glad that we'd taken the advice of the Innkeepers and others by booking dinner here (as it is very busy and books up quickly). The atmosphere is rustic and quaint, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the food... More

We visited the Whale's Rib on Memorial Day weekend. It was busy and we did have to take a late reservation but we had a cocktail at home and arrived at our reservation time. we were seated right away, The waitress was busy but she was friendly and made us feel welcome. We are dinner here twice. Amazing food. The scallops were delicious. The only point to make - we ordered a bottle of Prosecco and the waitress had no idea how to open it. No concerns, we gave her a lesson. Desserts are delicious as well

Outstanding restaurant and bar. Traci was so attentive and excellent at allowing us to pace our way through the evening. The chowder was superb, the cold pea soup intricate and appealing. The house made chicken liver pate was just too good to be true with house made crackers, chutney and marinated onion. SO YUMMY! We had beautiful fish for our... More

We ate at the inn one evening during a recent stay at the inn. The setting is lovely and the restaurant is one of the few places for a nice dinner in the area. The shrimp cocktail with lobster mousse and the seafood stew were both excellent. Arrive early for a cocktail or glass of wine out on the lovely... More

We found the Whales Rib to be the fanciest eats on the island. This restaurant seems to attract a lot of older people. We enjoyed the environment of the restaurant. The older group next to us was very snobby to our shared waitress who in our opinion was very nice and patient, therefore we treated her as such.
