Easily Portland's Best Doughnuts

For us and our local friends, the choice of doughnut shop is pretty darn easy. No other bakery or doughnut shop even comes close to the quality and value of The Cookie Jar's doughnuts. After a trip out to Portland Head Lighthouse, we stopped here on impulse and were not disappointed. They had so many choices, cookies, turnovers, whoopie pies, eclairs, cakes, and other assorted baked goods. We had a blueberry turnover and a raspberry turnover and they were very tasty.

Yes it can! We affectionately refer to this place as "The Church of the Cookie Jar" because of the Sunday pilgrimage our family makes to this holiest of all bakeries. And while "Frosted cinnamon bun" doesn't fill the 100 character minimum requirement for Trip Advisor reviews, it will certainly fill your belly...

I'm very particular about doughnuts. To me, the perfect doughnut is slightly crunchy on the inside and densely cake-like on the inside. Each flavor should taste different. (Unlike chain doughnuts that all taste simply sweet whether you get a plain, chocolate, or jelly doughnut.) At The Cookie Jar, a maple doughnut tastes good and "mapley." A chocolate doughnut covered in... More

I never go through Portland without a trip to the Cookie Jar. I was first introduced years ago, and yet I fall in love again every time I go. The raspberry filled sugar cookies are incredible and were served as my mother's birthday cake last year. The cinnamon rolls are the size of your head and the size doesn't change... More

The Cookie Jar is simply a pleasure to visit...their selection is far above any other bakery in the area. From breads and rolls to turnovers and cakes....cupcakes and cookies...cream puffs and homemade English muffins. All delicious. My favorite is the cinnamon sugar (huge) donuts...so good with a hot coffee or tea...these donuts beat Tony's same donut by miles. I actually... More

First off, the pastry is excellent. The food is not the problem. The Cookie Jar was to bake us a wedding cake. Initially, we left our deposit and a photo of the cake which was to be made. The person who baked the wedding cakes was not available at that time, but we were told that the cake was a... More

Not one to put places down, but this place was awful Scratch Bakery, recommended by several others, was spectacular though. it is only about a mile away from this place.

We stopped here at the suggestion of our B&B host and I'm glad we did. It was a bit hard to find, but the number of cars nearby was a give-away for it being a good place to go. The service was fast. Made-to-order sandwiches and the soup/chowder was one of the best. The peanut butter cookies were very large... More
