We--three friends--stopped off here half-way through a long drive from Brattleboro, Vermont, to see our friend in Jefferson, ME, and enjoyed both meal and atmosphere. We had sandwiches (a Cuban sandwich for me, of course, and reuben sandwiches for my friends; one had a dessert) and ;micro-brewery beers. The S.S. Milton is housed in a "Queen Anne" house on Main... We visited on the recommendation of our guest house (Austins Holidae House) and were not disappointed. The seafood bisque was absolutely amazing - the best I've ever had. I had the haddock which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the pork which he said was superb. We had attentive service and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Took my parents for a lunch. They are in their mid-80's. Wish they would have had a ramp or railings to help my folks. I wouldn't go out of my way for the lunch, again. We had soup and a sandwich. Very nice staff. The old house is funky. The carpet smelled a little. Might have been that time of... More

We had evening dinner twice here, both times service was excellent and food was hot and very tasty. Would recommend.

An old house with a good lunch although the building is for sale and the town is dead this time of year. Only three other groups in when we were. Very reasonable.

We are always a little apprehensive when we can’t at least look at a restaurant’s menu online before we visit. I think this place does itself a bit of a disservice that they don’t at least have a basic website with a menu. We visited based on the other good TA reviews and rating. Fortunately we were able to review... More

Small restaurant with great food and very reasonable prices. Mussel appetizer was excellent with very tasty broth. Scallops Nantucket were fabulous -- scallops were fresh and sweet. Clearly the best food in Bethel. Service was friendly and prompt but not rushed.

The S.S.Milton offers little in the way of style or ambience but the staff are friendly and the food is ok. Just ok though. Definitely not best in town as suggested by the ratings on this esteemed site. After a week in New England, I finally gave in and ordered a lobster. Maybe I should have done so nearer the... More

This small reastaurant is on main street and does not look like much on the outside but wait until you go in. As you enter you are surrounded by antiques and bri-a bac for sale, the dining area is made up of small old fashion nicely furnished rooms or if there is a table available and the weather nice you... Never, never, never a bad meal and wonderful service. The S.S. Milton should be over-flowing with customers, but the four times we've visited in two years, we've never had to wait for a table. Quiet atmosphere, and not the "pizzazz" that some might insist on, but we love the old home atmosphere. There is out-door seating. The wine list is... More
