fresh off the boat, a whole lobster and all the fixings

for under $20! Nice outside patio seating. Nothing fancy, this is plastic silverware, picnic style place. But if you want lobster, this is the place.

The food was decent. We got the lobster dinner, lobster roll and the steamers. The lobster dinner and the roll were fine. However, the steamers were quite sandy. We had steamers at another lobster pound the night before and did not encounter similar issue. The blueberry cake was tasty. The view from the deck was really lovely. The atmosphere was... More

This appears to be where the locals eat. It is not sophisticated. Plastic cutlery disposable everything but excellent lobster and good salad. what surprised me too was the excellent local beer. i tried several while in the area and they had a great choice here. I've enjoyed lobster more elsewhere but Thurston's offers a real sense of local character and... More

Best lobster rolls that we had during our trip. Fish chowder was very good too. View of the harbor is great. Highly recommended.

If you want lobster, this is the place. Recommended by our B&B host, this place has different size lobsters (w/different prices), all of which are alive when you pick em--you can even take a picture with your dinner lobster before cooking him/her. The lobster are off-loaded from the boats nearby, which you can observe. It's worth a visit and lunch/dinner... More

We happened upon this place as we were out exploring the roads around Acadia National Park. It is right on a working harbor so you can watch the lobster boats bringing in their catch while you are eating. You order at the window and they bring your food when it is ready. The woman who helped us told us the... More

Thurston's is located in Bass Harbor on the other side of Bernard. This was a great local stop for Lobster with burgers, salads and chicken with a small kid's menu. You order when you come in and are given a number slip that you place on the table you choose to sit at. Your food is then delivered to your... More

This was my favorite lobster shack that we went to. It's right on the bay in Bernard (about 30 min away from Bar Harbor) and you pick our your lobster right there. A 2lb lobster was $22 which was pretty good. It was slightly overcooked but I didn't have a single lobster my entire trip there that wasn't somewhat overcooked... More

If you're exploring Acadia National Park, be sure you venture over to the Southwest Harbor peninsula and check out Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard. Follow the signs and arrive early. It is a little difficult to find and the parking spots fill up fast for lunch. The restaurant is right on the water with views of the lobster boats and... More
