Great late night meals or a quick drink before turning in.

We had been driving all day (from Nova Scotia) and the usual place we stop was packed... so we kept going and decided to try Papa J's. Awesome site and ambiance! Very friendly staff. Lots of higher end stuff that looked fantastic, but we were tired and had "get-home-itis", so we ordered from the "Light Menu". First, the lobster roll... More

We had dinner here on May 15 (my buddy was from Dublin, Ireland). We sat at the bar. He had scallops, I had lobster stew ... after two pounds of soft-shell steamer clams for appetizers. We were both impressed. I'm a native New Englander so I know great seafood when I get it. These dishes were fabulous. Cannot wait to... More

Home to Belfast after leaving in 1966 for fun with the US Army for 23 years. I know how good Maine lobster and lobster rolls are - but the Chef recommended I try a lobster pizza. This was sacrilege to good Maine lobster in my mine - but he said if I didn't like it - it was no charge... More

Nice water view. Eclectic but pleasant atmosphere. My husband had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The salmon was slightly uncooked but well seasoned. Friendly waitstaff.

Great Food, Fun Atmosphere! I had Portuguese Steak and my friend had the Salmon...both meals were wonderful! The waitstaff was friendly...I let the bartender surprise me with a rum drink :) Our waitress was Sydnie, she was friendly, smiling and fun! The owner stopped by during the meal. Nice to know how much they care about their patrons!

We were visiting Belfast after moving away in the late 60's and met up with high school friends who took us to Papa J's. Just in looking at the outside, we would never have known what awaited us inside. We sat in the back room and had an expansive view of the Penobscot Bay. The wait staff was very efficient... More

Service was great, waitstaff friendly and food was very tasty. A very extensive wine menu. Looks like a neighborhood stop and probably is. Would have driven right past, and have in the past. Recommended by a couple we met on the summit of Mt Battie nearby and thought we would give it a try on the way back from Bar... More

Four of us (two couples) had a very good late dinner at Papa J’s. We were staying next door at Colonial Gables Oceanfront Village, and were thrilled to find Papa J’s serving good food and excellent wine at 10 pm. The late night menu ($7 to $12) was limited but offered several good choices (we liked the fried haddock sandwich... More

We are so lucky to live nearby...we just wish Papa J's was open year-round! This is one of the few restaurants where your meal is prepared by a CHEF, who also happens to be well-versed in wines. The steamed mussels, lobster, steaks & fried corn-on-the-cob are all wonderful. Treat yourself & go there! And, if you enjoy a Key West... More
