We had pizza at Amato's - each a different kind and we both liked what we had. The service was speedy and the wait staff was very friendly. It was our first experience eating in this chain restaurant and we would try them again on our travels. We had never eaten at one of their restaurants before this recent experience.

While traveling around Maine for a week we had seen Amato's in various cities and finally decided to try one for lunch. I had a hot sub and my wife had an individual pizza. Both were made to order and arrived hot - seemed a little slow but not excessively. Interesting layout and store. We would eat there again.

The store in Portland is much better, this one had a lot of bored employees going thru the motions. The sandwiches were lackluster.

Clean, fast italian food. You can eat in or take out. Everything is quite good. Close to the shipyard...be prepared is you're stopping in at noon. Amato's has been in Maine for many years - their sandwiches are better than other sandwich chains. Prices are right.

Amato's is a small chain that offers a solid range of Italian offerings. It didn't blow me away with creativity or execution, but everything was how I expected it to be. It's tough to mess up something that is coated in cheese (which they didn't). If you don't want to take a risk on somewhere local that you don't know... More

I don't know where they get their pickles or tomatoes but they make the italians incredible! My husband and I eat here once a week, and he always gets the eggplant italian and I get the veggie italian, both amazing! My mouth is watering thinking about it!

This nice little Italian place is great for an on-the-go lunch or quick sit-down. There is a selection of salads, pizzas, rolls, pastas, breadsticks, and deserts pre-made. Sandwiches and specialty pizzas are made to order. You can also get a decent Maine-favorite: the Lobster Roll (recommend you get it toasted). They have wide variety of bottled beverages and about two... More

as advertised "for the real Italian" sandwich, it's really good. Their tomatoes are the best! Red and ripe...not those hard orange things some places use. Friendly service, but atmosphere is plain and straight forward. Not bad, just not fancy. Overall, a good place for lunch or quick dinner. They also have soda, beer, and small selection of wine. (But wine... More
