Thistles Restaurant is like a "star on the edge of night"

When writer Henry David Thoreau visited Bangor he was so moved by Bangor's presence that he wrote Bangor is "like star on the edge of the night". My family ages 55 - 88 yrs. ate at Thistles restaurant on July 3rd for my Dad's 88 birthday party. The service was terrific. We had a wonderful... read more

The food was excellently cooked and the atmosphere was very nice. The price was a little much however. Given the amount of delicious restaurants in Bangor, it would not be a first choice, but it would be an ideal upscale meal.

We recently dined at Thistles on a Tuesday evening and I must say that for the first time in many years of great meals at Thistles I was severely disappointed with the quality of the food that was served. Let's start with the empanada appetizer...it was clearly made and cooked ahead of time and obviously microwaved for service. Normally this... More

Their menu is apparently influenced by South America cuisine and contains some exotic selections. Risotto Latino was the only dish we liked. We tried the coconut salmon, but it was overly sour with lemon juice to a point that we did not even taste a hint of coconut in the dish. The shrimp dish which I forget the name about... More

Good quality food. Piano player was a nice touch. Decent wine list. It was in an odd location so know where you are going.

Over all great food. The service was good. I was not crazy about the dish I ordered. It was cooked correctly, but I just was not crazy about the spices. Not their fault. We had some good laughs and a good bottle of wine. Nothing better than sharing a meal with great friends. The atmosphere was perfect for a fairly... More

From a great goat cheese salad, to perfectly cooked duck breast, and Argentine wines by the glass to just right service, Thistles is an excellent place to eat.

I have gone to this restaurant over the years for special occasions and it is always consistently a great dining experience with a variety of menu items that seems to have an emphasis on South Amercan cuisine. If you want a quiet restaurant with high quality food and service you won't be disappointed.

We have dined at Thistles many times and are never disappointed. They rely on fresh, quality ingredients and let the food shine. I never get the feeling they're trying to hard or over thinking the process. The service is always great. The option to get half portions of entrees is nice. The beer and wine selection is extensive.
