our experience started off well. we thought it had nice atmosphere, it was very busy but there was room for us at the bar (were told should have a table in 30-45min). this wasn't a problem as we wanted to start with a bottle of wine. The bartender recommended a bottle which we loved. After approximately 30min things started to... More

I have heard of this place being a great experience, so I tried it out. They don't take reservations, but you can call ahead and they will put your name on a list. We went on a Friday night and it was fairly full, the aroma was, in and of itself, wonderful. Everything is a la carte so it gets... More

i have tried 15 times to make a reservation for 4. They require you to call 45 minutes before hand to make reservation. EVERY TIME they have no table as they do take reservations for 7 or more people. But when you call early they always say call back 45 minutes before hand. If you do not mind waiting an... More

My husband and i ate here a few nights ago on our way to Bar Harbor. This restaurant is worth driving back to bangor for. The pappardelle with mushrooms was one of the best we've had since Italy two years ago. House salad with roasted peppers was perfect. AND the house olive oil is as good as anything we've had... More

I may be setting the bar too low -- this is Bangor, after all, not quite a foodie mecca -- but I can recommend Massimo's without hesitation or reservation. The food is really very good, well prepared, well presented, nice location, nice atmosphere, and a wine list that works well along with a full bar that serves up well made... More

We live in Moncton N.B. Canada, a six hour drive to Bangor. We recently took the drive in order to celebrate an event. This meal was absolutely delicious. My husband(very fussy) had the gnocchi and I had the linguini carbonera, one of the best carbonera I have ever tasted The gnocchi was tender and the tomato sauce soulful. If you... More

Reliable service and quality - a character for a chef (Massimo) who is a baker at heart and so also has the bakery next door with amazing breads. Lamb shank in fall is always a treat. Great value and one of just a very small number of quality restaurants in a city filled with chains.

Once you park the entrance is strange, you have to walk into the adjacent building, past 2 other food establishments to get to this restaurant. I guess that works for them if there are long wait lines, at least you are inside. It is an old building, and this allows no cold air to enter the restaurant...so it's a good... More

A surprisingly good Italian restaurant so far from Boston's North End and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Very friendly and informative staff (thank you, Marilyn). The braised lamb shank was fork tender, perfectly spiced and absolutely top notch. The pastas were exceptional with truly amazing sauses, like those your Nonna would make every Sunday. The eggplant antipasto just devine. The... More
