Description: Founded in 1991 Southside Cafe opened at the current location on...
Founded in 1991 Southside Cafe opened at the current location on Pontchartrain Drive. The building originally opened in 1987 as a local donut franchise by Dan and Sharon DeBlanc. Expanded in 1994 to almost double the capacity, Southside had slowly grown into favorite meeting spot. It also had become one of the most patriotic places to eat. Fueled by the rising patriotism brought about by the Iraqi war, and Dan being a former Marine Corps Helicopter pilot, the restaurant soon became a type of meeting place for hungry patriots to eat, drink and congregate. With the overwhelming support of the community over the last 20 plus years, Dan, Sharon and Chris have strived to provide that comfortable local joint, were you celebrate birthdays, graduation or just having a great meal. With a staff and customers that includes over three generations; Southside Cafe is looking forward to the next 20 years! Don't Ever Give Up!

Best dinner!

After 10 days on the road with our family of 6, this was the final dinner of our trip before we arrived home. It was the BEST food and the best value of anything we had our entire trip! The food and service were phenomenal. I'm so glad we found it when we passed through Slidell. Now we need... read more

This place comes recommended by the locals. It's a bit on the small side, so it gets crowded. I understand Thurs is steak night, so we avoided that because of the crowd but I hear the steaks are pretty good for a predominantly seafood community. They actually have a wide variety on the menu, if you don't want seafood. There's... More

Stopped in mid afternoon for a late lunch. Food was good and plenty of it. Wait staff acted as if they had a very busy lunch trade and were worn out. We had hamburgers and a ruben. Nothing really special. Onion rings were very good and beer was very cold. We think we will try someplace different next time in... More

When traveling we enjoy finding local spots for dining. Something we can't get at home. We saw a sign for the cafe and took the exit. It was a little off the interstate and my husband almost turned around. So glad we didn't. I ordered the half muffaletta and he ordered the pork Pontchartrain. Both were delicious. My half was... Came in for lunch driving from New Orleans , food was great and portions were big, restaurant was pretty busy and our waitress didn't get to us fast... She was so busy that she didn't even have time to say simple hello.... Restaurant is very family oriented and they should hire a little nicer people, other than that we had... More

looked online to get review. looked good on the review. Asked the wait staff on what good. the waitstaff seemed to be reluctant to say the dishes were good. The gumbo was ok, nothing special. one of us got the fish. it was bland and under cooked. I gathered that the recommendations were more evasive than anything. Had hamburger steak.... More

The environment was great. I love restaurant/bar eats, loud enough for kids but nice enough without. Prices were great and service was as well.

Lunch was ok. They brought me the wrong order at first but it didn't take long to correct. I love a good Club Sandwich but mine was very average. My wife though very much enjoyed her Steak sandwich.
