Description: Founded in 1991 Southside Cafe opened at the current location on Pontchartrain Drive. The building originally opened in 1987 as a local donut franchise by Dan and Sharon DeBlanc. Expanded in 1994 to almost double the capacity, Southside had slowly grown into favorite meeting spot. It also had become one of the most patriotic places to eat. Fueled by the rising patriotism brought about by the Iraqi war, and Dan being a former Marine Corps Helicopter pilot, the restaurant soon became a type of meeting place for hungry patriots to eat, drink and congregate. With the overwhelming support of the community over the last 20 plus years, Dan, Sharon and Chris have strived to provide that comfortable local joint, were you celebrate birthdays, graduation or just having a great meal. With a staff and customers that includes over three generations; Southside Cafe is looking forward to the next 20 years! Don't Ever Give Up!

This is a great Nawlins Style restaurant, but its located across the Lake in Slidell ,Louisiana. Its worth the drive. The Gumbo and Fried Shrimp were wonderful. The draft beer was icy cold and the wait staff were very friendly. The walls are covered in military memorability ...and its very patriotic. The look and feel of this place is a... More

Great food, excellent atmosphere. We didn't know when we went there it was a sport's bar, but it is. Unless you are an LSU fan, don't go on a night that LSU is playing, it's very noisy in there. The food and service are TOP NOTCH. Amazing gumbo there!! Our waitress was on the ball, and she was friendly and... More

We arrived right at the height of lunch hour but were quickly shown our table and the server was there almost immediatley . I have the shrimp poboy made with the world famous Leidenheimer's French bread and it was the best I have ever had . My companions had crab stuffed giant shrimps and thick-cut catfish and they struggled to... More

We rolled in for a late dinner. We ordered the grilled chicken dinner with mixed vegetables. The chicken was a little dry and the vegetables were not eatable. I don't know if they were overcooked or just bad, but we took one bite and had to stop. One person with us had the bread pudding which was wonderful. The staff... More

We stopped here based on some other reviews and the late hours as we had been travelling all day. There were some goods and some bads. The Good: we ordered some chilli fries, they called them killa fries. They were outstanding. Our service was great even though our waitress was very busy. We had some gumbo that I really enjoyed.... We went to Southside Café with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law while visiting them in Slidell , LA. The place is a shrine to the military, especially the Marine Corps, my old outfit. It's great to see such patriotism and I appreciate that. The military memorabilia placed throughout the restaurant must be seen to be believed. One can really appreciate it... More

I love the Ponchartrain Pig sandwich! It's a pulled pork on Texas toast with coleslaw and cheese am da great sauce. Yummy!! Also it's a great hangout for bikers and military folks. Authentic memorabilia on the walls.
