Description: Founded in 1991 Southside Cafe opened at the current location on Pontchartrain Drive. The building originally opened in 1987 as a local donut franchise by Dan and Sharon DeBlanc. Expanded in 1994 to almost double the capacity, Southside had slowly grown into favorite meeting spot. It also had become one of the most patriotic places to eat. Fueled by the rising patriotism brought about by the Iraqi war, and Dan being a former Marine Corps Helicopter pilot, the restaurant soon became a type of meeting place for hungry patriots to eat, drink and congregate. With the overwhelming support of the community over the last 20 plus years, Dan, Sharon and Chris have strived to provide that comfortable local joint, were you celebrate birthdays, graduation or just having a great meal. With a staff and customers that includes over three generations; Southside Cafe is looking forward to the next 20 years! Don't Ever Give Up!

We stopped here based on some other reviews and the late hours as we had been travelling all day. There were some goods and some bads. The Good: we ordered some chilli fries, they called them killa fries. They were outstanding. Our service was great even though our waitress was very busy. We had some gumbo that I really enjoyed.... We went to Southside Café with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law while visiting them in Slidell , LA. The place is a shrine to the military, especially the Marine Corps, my old outfit. It's great to see such patriotism and I appreciate that. The military memorabilia placed throughout the restaurant must be seen to be believed. One can really appreciate it... More

I love the Ponchartrain Pig sandwich! It's a pulled pork on Texas toast with coleslaw and cheese am da great sauce. Yummy!! Also it's a great hangout for bikers and military folks. Authentic memorabilia on the walls.

They very good service, really good steak sandwich, the best onion rings, and a no smoking and sports bar.

Picked up a to go order and shame on me for not checking it. The employees were more into their own conversations than me. Got home and was missing two sandwiches and a fry. Too tired to go back so we split what was left with family and roughed it.

Food is always great here. Only problem with this place is that it is always noisy-lots of people-but that just goes to tell you that this is a GOOD place to eat or socialize. Many locals go there on a regular basis.

If you are traveling on I-10 through this part of Louisiana, make sure you refuel your bellies at Southside Café. It is a little confusing to get to at first, but not impossible to find. At the time of this review Southside Café was next to an old, defunct Popeye's. The service was friendly and anybody that you come across... More

I have been to this restaurant numerous times with large groups, friends and with just my husband. Same spectacular service and superb food each time. My husband loves their steak sandwiches and I love the smokey-flavored gumbo. Everything on the menu is good which is a real treat to find a restaurant that has such a varied menu and everything...
