Founded in 1991 Southside Cafe opened at the current location on Pontchartrain Drive. The building originally opened in 1987 as a local donut franchise by Dan and Sharon DeBlanc. Expanded in 1994 to almost double the capacity, Southside had slowly grown into favorite meeting spot. It also had become one of the most patriotic places to eat. Fueled by the rising patriotism brought about by the Iraqi war, and Dan being a former Marine Corps Helicopter pilot, the restaurant soon became a type of meeting place for hungry patriots to eat, drink and congregate. With the overwhelming support of the community over the last 20 plus years, Dan, Sharon and Chris have strived to provide that comfortable local joint, were you celebrate birthdays, graduation or just having a great meal. With a staff and customers that includes over three generations; Southside Cafe is looking forward to the next 20 years! Don't Ever Give Up!

Great stop for lunch after a swamp tour

We loved the Southside Cafe, their Muffuletta sandwiches and Po-Boys are amazing and the portions are ginormous. We stopped by for lunch after our swamp tour and it was super busy and yet the service was fast, friendly and efficient...don't miss out if you are in the area.

Great food, fun atmosphere, but very noisy. Big bar area in the middle of the restaurant. Would definitely recommend. Lots of parking. Recommended by a local and appeared to be very popular.

I live nearby, so I visit often, usually getting food togo. The theme is Marines Sports Bar & Grill. It's tastefully done. If you never have been here, you must stop by. If you're local, you've probably been here many times. They have bike night for bikers, they have the games on the TVs, they have steak nights, etc. It... More

We were traveling through Louisiana and wanted to eat lunch at a place where we could experience food from the area. (We often try to order foods that is from an area for the full experience). We drove for miles seeing other food chain restaurants when we came across a sign for Southside Cafe. We hoped that we could eat... More

Friday 7-24-2015---I've been here many times (b-4 & after Katrina), but this was my first time to take KIDS. We had a great time & wonderful food. My Niece was visiting-we spent time in NOLA & needed a place to take four kids ages 2-16. The wait staff was awesome & so was the food. The childrens' meals were outstanding... More

I had a really good muffuletta and some gumbo. We shared the chili, cheese, jalapeño fries which were layered like a lasagna. The Irish Channel Gumbo was good as was the Po' Boys. Good pub vibe!

The BEST turkey burger I've ever had. They also have really good chicken & sausage gumbo, yum. Also, always great service at the bar!

If you are a Marine of any worth, this is the place you MUST visit whenever in Slidell. The restaurant has memorabilia from the past, present, male and women Marines alike. It was severely damaged during Katrina but with typical Marine tenacity, it was restored and I think better than ever. I now live in Alabama, but never pass up... More
