a welcoming, down-home place

You couldn't find a more welcoming, down-home place than this if you looked for years. The food though - or at least some of the breakfast food - leaves a bit to be desired. The pancakes are greasy and the pork chops are tough. However, the biscuits are great and the grits are good. The... read more

Basically paid for a $10 pile of lettuce with cold shredded dark meat chicken.. No cheese? No tomatos or cucumber? Just lettuce, boiled egg, fried chicken, and pickles!! Unbelievable that they charge so much for so little! Very disappointed!

If you travel from or to Houston from or to Baton Rouge and New Orleans on Highway 190 you should stop here. Its on Hwy 190 in Opelousas and next to the famous Jim Bowie Oak Tree. We have been eating there for 40 years. Food is consistently delicious.

Lots to listen to, with good Cajun accents. Where can you get a special of 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, and 2 sausage for $2.99? Don't miss if you are in Opelousas.

The Palace Cafe is located in the historical part of downtown Opelousas. It has friendly waitresses and great Louisiana food! Highly recommended! 5 stars!

The Palace Café is a restaurant that's been in Opelousas for many years. The food is good and the service is also. Though, parking is not great during the weekdays.

Not necessarily quaint.. Old and musty smelling.. Breakfast was ok.. Have had better .. I had French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon.. The bacon was cooked perfectly. Prices are reasonable. I know this place is historic for this city but don't think I would return.

The cafe is located downtown and on a busy street, so we had a little trouble finding a place to park, but it was worth it. Once inside, we had a view of the historic courthouse and several oak trees. The café itself has been around for many years and just being there gave us a feeling of stepping back... More

The Palace Cafe is just what you would expect of an old style diner in a historic town. Breakfast plates are large and traditional. Food is good. The townspeople are there chatting about the subjects important to the town. The wait staff are particularly caring for the customer. It was just the way I wanted to start my day sightseeing... My wife was born and raised in Opelousas and I lived in Louisiana most of my life. We were in Opelousas recently for a visit and went to the Palace twice: once for dinner and once for lunch and both were just ho-hum. I was not, however, disappointed as homecooked-style food, albeit cooked by someone who does not have highly... More
