The cafe is located downtown and on a busy street, so we had a little trouble finding a place to park, but it was worth it. Once inside, we had a view of the historic courthouse and several oak trees. The café itself has been around for many years and just being there gave us a feeling of stepping back... More

The Palace Cafe is just what you would expect of an old style diner in a historic town. Breakfast plates are large and traditional. Food is good. The townspeople are there chatting about the subjects important to the town. The wait staff are particularly caring for the customer. It was just the way I wanted to start my day sightseeing... My wife was born and raised in Opelousas and I lived in Louisiana most of my life. We were in Opelousas recently for a visit and went to the Palace twice: once for dinner and once for lunch and both were just ho-hum. I was not, however, disappointed as homecooked-style food, albeit cooked by someone who does not have highly... More

We went because most of the reviews are so good, but it was so nasty. We got chicken fried steak which looked like it came from some kids play food set. The chicken tenders were okay but my plate had old food stuck to it so I sent it back and the waitress brought me the same plate back. The... More

The outer appearance of this location shows to be a very old establishment, which it is! Like 70 years... Our waitress had been working there for 40 years! She said that the establishment had just sold but new owners kept all the staff and cooks. We were very pleased with our late lunch on a Saturday (2:30) We had chicken... More

A top notch place for brunch in New Orleans! The jazz band was great and the food was excellent! A nice place to go after church with the family...a perfect family reunion.

Just so happens we had breakfast here within a 3 week period and enjoyed both trips, found it to be in an unlikely down town spot which was refreshing as most town cafés have closed or do not bother opening for the early a.m. folks. Good menu selections and we had the cheese omelette / w sausage patty & bacon... More

Every since arriving in Opelousas from Katrina, the word in town was "you gotta go to Palace Cafe". It has withstood the hands of time. Staff is friendly, located amidst all of the attorneys and the courthouse, so gets a good crowd. Food was what you'd expect from an old standby. Breakfast is the big deal here. Food was good.

Stopped in for breakfast after locals told us it was the best in town. I had the beef patty and eggs with hash browns and my mom and sis ordered the veggie omelet. My patty was raw and hash browns slightly seared, not even hot. Both omelets were made with salsa, nothing else. Sis's pancake was burnt. Mom's biscuit as... More

It hasn't changed much since my father used to take me for lunch in the late 1960's. The Palace sits on Courthouse Square in Opelousas. There's still a lunch counter, and a lunchtime crowd including a lawyers's table. 50's-modern decor, good solid cajun and american food well prepared, with some Greek accents remain from the former owner. Fare is simple... More
