The Mohawk was always one of my favorite places to eat in Monroe during my college years on date night - many, many years ago. I always ordered the Italian salad and fried shrimp basket with fries and toast. A few weeks ago I was in town and thought I'd stop by for lunch with a college buddy. The place... More

The Mohawk Tavern is located off of the beaten path, but worth finding. The restaurant serves excellent seafood, has a full bar, and the atmosphere is very eclectic. The staff is courteous and attentive. We always make a point to eat at this restaurant whenever we are in the Monroe area.

Have eaten here three times, and we have gotten something different each time and liked each one very much. Close friend has eaten here for years, since her parents brought her here. She turned us on to it and it is a short detour off I20 to get to and from, so we have hit it every time we pass... More

My wife and I recently returned to the Mohawk. While you get many points of view when reading these reviews, for me a few points ring true: (1) while the restaurant is getting old and could use some renovation, there is something about the atmosphere that takes you back to calmer and simpler times; (2) the oysters and the soft-shelled... It has been a while since my last visit here. I can not remember anything special about the food. I do remember the service being horrible. You will spend close to two hours between waiting and eating.

Ordered the gumbo. It tasted like it came out of a can. The consistency was nothing like what they serve in New Orleans. The fried seafood plate had frozen seafood. Breading wasn't worth the calories. The bright spot was the server. He had a great personality.

Everyone I know who has moved out of Monroe has to eat at the Mohawk when they come back to town! It is a local tradition. The food and service is always consistently good.
