Description: Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant's design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It's in this setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It's an experience your friends and family will not soon forget. The 17-mile journey from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You'll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century old oak trees. The restaurant's Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was. Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffee, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Grilled Redfish and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant will tempt even the most timid diner. We look forward to your visit.

Had the catfish with pasta and it was delicious. Also had beets and I've never seen them cooked that way but they were very good. Bread pudding was awesome.

Great food. Family friendly. You might even get to see an alligator right outside your table window.

The restaurant and the surrounding grounds is beautiful. The hostess, Brook, was fantastic. I really wanted to love the food as much as the ambience but it fell short of my expectations. The Seafood Boullettes were the highlight of my meal and I give them high marks. The Crabmeat Remick was okay. My entree', the Redfish and Friends, really let... More

Off the beaten path but worth the trip. We had a variety of food from the menu and every dish was great. The baked oysters were the show stopper. Crispy breadcrumbs over a delicious mixture of spinach and plump oysters. I also had the crawfish which not only was huge, but also prepared perfectly. My dad had the Stack salad... More

The first thing I noticed is how nice the place is. I looked out the window, and a gator was laying on the lawn at the water's edge. We saw gators while we were eating. We enjoyed some great local beers and ordered the Jambayla, which the portions are huge and delicious! Service was great, and I would definitely recommend... More

We went here for lunch after taking a Swamp Boat Tour just around the corner. What a great find. The atmosphere is relaxing, the service is wonderful an the food was amazing! I started with a cup of Turtle Soup. I wish I had had the bowl instead because it was so good. The bread basket they bring you goes... More

This was an exceptional restaurant in an area of excellent restaurants. The food was very good, the service was attentive, but not overwhelming, the value was good, the view was unusual and interesting. I don't think that there was really a bad table in the place. It overlooks a waterway and the room has a window wall which allows you... More

This restaurant is about 45 minutes from downtown New Orleans but well worth the drive. The menu features excellent local seafood, with some poultry and meat entrees. The setting is lovely, overlooking a hyacinth- filled bayou with small alligators swimming about. The servers were pleasant and attentive. The Sunday brunch features unlimited champagne.
