Good Eats on Mardi Gras!

After touring Ardoyne Plantation we rode into Houma to eat t Big Al's Seafood Restaurant. It was busy and the wait was only (a fast) 10minutes. I always get the fried oyster po boy, excellent. My husband got the shrimp po boy. We decided to try the side order of hush puppies, excellent... The menu... read more

I've eaten in the restaurant and also had their catering. Both were disappointing. I find the boiled seafood when catered is way overcooked. This is probably because it is transported in closed boxes and the shrimp (in my case) steamed during their ride to our lunch. When I have eaten in the restaurant, the service has been good but the... More

This is a family style restaurant with a nice selection to choose from. Being tired of fried seafood offered everywhere else, I ordered the Blackened Red Fish and it was so good. Add a fresh salad, excellent onion rings, and something called corn nuggets (sweet corn in batter) and the meal was really very good. Only negative is that we... More

I was here for work and this is where my business partners selected for lunch. The place was moderately packed for lunch on a Wednesday. The menu was varied. Lots of seafood, po boys, and appetizers. Our table had gumbo, alligator, duck, and shrimp po boys. Everything was good. The service was pretty quick. We were told that Big Al... More

We ate at Big Al's with a group of eight on a Friday evening. Seating was easily available with no waiting. The staff was hospitable and congenial and treated us well. However the ambiance and menu were somewhat standard and more akin to a fast food place than I would have preferred. The meals were satisfying, but certainly not very... More

We used to enjoy going to Big Al's every time we were in town. Our most recent visit was not as good. Our service was not as good and food quality has decreased significantly. The sweet tea was good though!

Food was fare but very expensive. Service was lousy. Too many good places to eat in this area to put up with subpar.

Great place for a group to go and share some southern treats like crawfish and alligator. The portions are huge and the atmosphere is very laid back. I enjoyed the shrimp, crawfish, crab fingers and left completely full. Don't expect a fancy place or high end anything. This is comfort food to get your fingers messy and mouth watering. If... More

Nice local place to eat, the food was good but not hot. They were quite busy but that should not be an excuse for room temperature food. We did enjoy the localness of the restaurant.

I have eight at big Al's multiple times. Both in parties of 2 and parties of 20. I have found that it is NOT A GOOD VALUE. The food quality is excellent. But I have found that compared to other great quality restaurants in the area, Big Al's is extremely expensive.
