Great start but needs tweaking!

We visited this after being disappointed in the past but after about 3 changes of owners decided to give it another go and it was very good. The only slightly disappointing thing was that we arrived at 7 pm to go for the 3 course menu for £15 (great value) served between 6 and 9 pm. Of the three... read more

This was the first night of their new menu and our first visit and we loved it! Not only was the food amazing (chef Tony) but the service was really nice and personal too (Andy and the others). We both had scallops and black pudding to start which we liked a lot, then I had the meat and ale pie... More

The Rockingham Arms is wonderfully located on the edge of the New Forest and just of the A36, Southampton to Salisbury. We visited for a midweek lunch which was OK but nothing special. The meat pie was average as was the burger which had the consistency of pressed mince and rather disappointing. It was a chilly day and the log... More

This pub restaurant has never failed to deliver. I struggled to get a late booking with them but on a change of plans the lady on the phone couldn't be more accommodating for a late lunch. A large round table for five is always better than a straight one and a fixed menu that was hard to beat anywhere. The... More

Everything looked good, a warm welcome from friendly staff, nice ambience and a busy restaurant. Service was a little slow, but that wasn't the fault of the friendly young staff, more due to not enough to cope. When the roast arrived, it was well presented and nicely cooked. It was very enjoyable apart from one major issue, it was more... More

Always a friendly welcome. from the new owners and staff . The improvements are noticeable , The food is very good value .and the chief makes pies that are to die for, so I shall be taking friends and family back for second helpings. Well done Victoria for bringing The Rock a village pub we can return too.

Very enjoyable quiet evening here, kicking off with ale round the roaring woodburner. Their new £15 for three courses menu on Mon-Thurs is an absolute bargain. Nice local produce and real cooking coming out of the kitchen with friendly service and chat in the bar. My partner needed vegetarian choices which were also egg-free. No problem: chef instantly offered to... More

So then, I do not know who needs a kick here, the butcher, the chef or the manager, but I guess the latter. Had Sunday lunch on March 2 on a cold wet day and even the the place was inviting so we were hopeful. the menu looked good and was reasonable priced. So what went wrong? Well firstly, the... More

I've been to the Rockingham a few times now an each time I think, 'this place has has great, friendly service, decent beers and fabulous food- it should be packed!' Thankfully, it's not and still has a warm country pub feel with a hearty log burner to boot. I cannot recommend enough. I am mainly in London but around in... More
