Part Newport History & Movie History as well

Was a bit surprised of the overall look ( it was a little dirty & dated), but I wrote that off as its been a figure in this city for quite a long time. Takes a while too place your order as they don't have a whole lot of help & even longer too get your food. Once you get... read more

Pompilio's is a staple of Newport culture. Not just food - culture. Yes, the bar was famously the setting for Dustin Hoffman's toothpick-counting scene in Rain Man. But what really makes this place special is the legions of locals who religiously pack in to eat on nights and weekends. It's the quintessential family restaurant. The food is, honestly, hit or... Our waiter provided excellent service. The food was so bland, disappointing for a place that has been around for so long. I had rigatoni and meatballs. The pasta clearly hadn't been salted while cooking and the meatballs had no seasoning. The sauce itself was average. My husband had the veal parmigiana, which was incredible chewy. The restaurant itself could use... More

Pompilio's in Newport, Kentucky is old school Italian. Very good food and excellent service. They serve large portions that are very good. Great salads and wonderful deserts. The movie "Rain Man" was filmed in the restaurant.

Rainman is the reason we visited this restaurant. However, it was a disappointment. Busy, boring menu, and a waitress who looked exhausted and walked like her feet were killing her. My food was drenched in this tomato sauce that I noticed was poured over all the orders that were passing by.

Hubby and I were visiting family in Northern Kentucky recently, and Hubby's brother took us and many other family members to Pompilio's for dinner our last night before returning home to California. Bro absolutely RAVED about this place, calling it fine Italian dining at it's best. We drove there, found a parking spot (not easy), and entered. The exterior of... More

Everything with red sauce was really good, but the white sauce was basic. I had the sampler and my wife had Chicken and Cheese Tortellini San Luci. The restaurant itself seemed like it need a bit of an overhaul. It wasn't dirty, but don't think It was very clean either. Not sure if we will rush back anytime soon.

Pompilio's is a treat. The environment reminds me of an old world home. The food is so very good each time we go, which is frequent. My favorite is the lasagna. Prices are moderate, and service has been excellent the many times we have been there. The beer and wine selection is above average, and they have Italian beer as... More
