My son and I recently took my wife to the English Grill for her birthday. Our meals were outstanding. She and my son had the Hot Brown (originally created at the Brown by Fred Schmidt in 1926) and I had the Pork Chop. The wait staff were very patient and courteous while we asked questions regarding the menu. Someone had... More

We have visited The English Grill several times over the years and have always had excellent service. From the moment you call for a reservation you are treated like a 5 star guest! The atmosphere takes you back to an era of old Louisville and the richness of the Kentucky thoroughbreds that it is known for. The staff greet you... More

We stayed at the Brown Hotel at the beginning of a 2+ week road trip to the Smokies and the Carolinas. We paid a return visit (after about five years, since the last time we were in Louisville) to the hotel's English Grill. It was an excellent experience. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The other service folks were... More

My first meal was just outstanding. Very fine cuisine and top notch service. The wine list had some very good bottles at prices that are well below what I would expect. The decor is classic with dark wood and roses on every table. Yet the restaurant is not stuffy or ostentatious at all. Just a lovely time. I liked it... More

After a day spent enjoying the sights that downtown Louisville had to offer, my family and I decided to complete our historical tour at the notorious Brown Hotel. We began with drinks at the bar.. With so many options to choose from it was easy for us to find our favorite beverage. The bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable of... More

This was our first trip to Louisville. Our reunion arranged a group dinner at the English Grill. We had set menu of salad, hot brown and derby pie. The food and service was outstanding. The facilities are soooo beautiful. A true classic!

My husband and I decided to go all out and treat my aging, feeble, elderly parents to a really nice experience in honor of my Dad's 87th birthday. Since the Brown Hotel and its restaurants are rated top in the city, we chose the English Grill. What a wonderful night we had! The service was superb. They were professional, but... More

I guess the answer is: everything. Why do I say this? Because the experience was not worth the price nor the the reputatuion coupled with the name. Food was ansolutrly nothing special for prices that are extraordinary. Wait person had attitude. We were guests, paying guests, not inconveniences who happened to pop in for the evening. Not impressed. Not going... More

While staying at The Brown Hotel, my girlfriend and I had the opportunity to experience the English Grill for dinner. It has been several months since we were last in Louisville, yet we are still talking about that meal. There were many delightful options throughout the menu, beyond the famous Hot Brown. My girlfriend is vegetarian and had no problem... More
