Now here's a place that knows how to dress up. It's a little stuffy, but the fare really is delicious.

We ate at the English Grill at the Brown Hotel for my Birthday dinner in December. The feel of the room appealed to us, but then we are from Britain, so the wood paneling and horse prints on the walls was all very familiar to us! The meal was delicious, I had the Hot Brown which I loved and was... More

I rate it average as a fine dining restaurant, very good for service, very good for food, average as a fine dining experience. First, the decor hasn't changed in forever. Not that it's a bad thing...but it appeals to more of an older crowd I suppose, decor-wise that is. decent lighting, lot's of warm, dark wood and trim...antique-ish chandeliers. If... More

The second floor dining room is gorgeous, the service is impeccable, and the food....Oh, My! At our table, we had the salmon and the filet of beef. Both dishes were excellent, and had a unique twist. I usually like to try several restaurants in a city, but this one was soo good, I will return to it.

For my first trip to Louisville I decided to get a room at the Brown. I was not disappointed. For dinner one evening I decided to try the English Grill. Service was great, cocktails were perfectly done, and the duck entree I ordered was the best duck I have had in the past 5 years (duck is my favorite meat,... More

I usually don't review a restaurant more than once but the English Grill changes by season, or at least parts of the menu do. Any reviews outside the tenure of Chef Joshua Bettis and his staff (except for the Hot Brown), and reviews of specific dishes not in the last few month should probably be read recreationally only. Chef Bettis... More

Definitely old English charm. So glad to find this gem in the midst of ultra modern places with glass, chrome & mirrors, where you pay exorbitant prices and can hear your neighbors whisper because tables are so close your elbows touch. The English Grill is cozy, rich wood and leather atmosphere with great food and impeccable service at every level.... More

My son and I recently took my wife to the English Grill for her birthday. Our meals were outstanding. She and my son had the Hot Brown (originally created at the Brown by Fred Schmidt in 1926) and I had the Pork Chop. The wait staff were very patient and courteous while we asked questions regarding the menu. Someone had... More
