This place has a reputation for very interesting food so my wife and I tried it for an anniversary dinner. She had the quail and I tried the beer cheese starter followed by a the most intersting ham sandwich I have ever tasted. The beer selection here is famous and with the help of a very capable bartender my wife... More

This is a tough one. What Eiderdown is: a nice neighborhood spot with a good vibe, good sevice, and good concepts. If I lived in the neighborhood, I could see it being a regular hangout. What it is not: one of the top 18 places in the city you must eat. First, we are not beer drinkers, so I can't... More

Housed in a 100+ year old building, that has hosted many enterprises, this eatery sprang into being four years ago. Decor might be describe as rustic and stark, some tables are bench like, all are bare wood. Flooring is bare also. Nothing is rustic or bare about the food. The presentation is only surpassed by the enjoyment of eating it.... More

We've been several times but tonight was probably our best meal. Starting with a really unique beer selection.we had 3 great beers Soup-pork rib and black eyed pea was really outstanding, shrimp in bacon appetizer really tasty. Mussels were excellent and broth was wonderful One of the best meals we've had in a while

I was in Louisville for a business trip and stopped here based on a recommendation. This was not a place I had found easily online and am really glad I was recommended. I was told it was a German restaurant, but it is much more contemporary and far from a traditional German restaurant. I ordered a Freaknik sandwich with a... More

Basically my thought is this. If you are not eating here you are missing out in a big, big way. I had the freaknik sandwich, which might be the best sandwich I've ever had. Warm potato salad was incredible. Beer cheese super tasty. Shrimp and barley was pretty outstanding as well. Great beer selection and friendly staff. Cant believe we... More

Louisville's restaurant scene continues to impress. Eiderdown is an interesting restaurant in the Germantown neighborhood of the city...and it was bustling on a Saturday night. The neighborhood is trying to come back (as are a few others in Louisville) but it is a working class feel and inside the restaurant is homey and lively. Dark wood, nice bar, kitchen, etc.... More

One person in our group wrinkled her nose at "German food", but it was the only highly recommended place open for Sunday lunch. Afterward, were all so glad it was (even the nose-wrinkler)! We were impressed with every dish. I had/tasted the duck-fat popcorn and beers (Kyritzer Mord & Totschlag and a cider, the name of which I forget), savory... More

Some friends suggested we head over to Eiderdown for dinner on a weekday night. It's an interesting restaurant once you get inside, lots of wood and character. They were pretty busy so we took a seat at the bar and checked out the beer selection. There is a good mix of German, Belgian and American selections, good descriptions and availability.... More

My wife and I went to Eiderdown this past Saturday evening for a casual meal and I was blown away. She had been once before with some girlfriends a year or more before, but this was my first visit. Having at one time lived near here I was familiar with at least 3 other businesses in this same building. I... More
