Great to come across a pub that does good quality, home-made food at very reasonable prices. Stopped off at lunchtime - bit worried that the place was empty but a friendly welcome from the staff and reassurance that small portions would be fine for the two 90-year-olds with us was great. They both went for very retro (but perfectly-sized for... More

Had a lovely pint and great food here. Very reasonable prices, great service, good atmosphere and locals who dont mind "outsiders" joining them!! Definitely not a "you made me miss" country pub!

This is what I might call a the real deal when looking for a pub. It is very comfortable & with lots of character. The food was good pub food and portions very generous and ideal for anyone looking for a good old-fashioned pub serving good old-fashioned food at reasonable prices and a nice pub atmosphere. The landlord was very friendly... More

We were recommended to go to this pub for our evening meal, and were not disappointed. The pub landlord was lively and friendly, and served us promptly. He recommended the homemade steak and ale pie from the extensive menu, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We shall certainly make a return visit.

we love this ancient building with its handsome beams and garden. Overlooking the village green it servces excellent 'normal' pub menu food and a cracking roast Sunday lunch and puds. Enormous portions, beware! Excellent value for money and very friendly service and nice locals who are welcoming to tourists amongst the many regulars. Wednesday night is curry night and is... More

This is what I might call a proper pub. It is comfortable without being plush; locals prop up the bar bantering; the landlord – a jovial and friendly East Ender - serves behind the bar and knows his beer (rather than young bar staff who simply serve and have little knowledge of the products they are serving), and the menu... This is a real pub that does not pretend to be anything else, good atmosphere, created mostly by the genial and extrovert, landlord Steve, who is not only interesting but a good source of information, food is good honest pub food and the steak and ale pie in particular.

Popped in for some lunch as I was passing by. Very good home made lasagne, weirdly served with salad and peas but none the less was excellent. The loos were not clean though, maybe an oversight.
