This is what I might call a proper pub. It is comfortable without being plush; locals prop up the bar bantering; the landlord – a jovial and friendly East Ender - serves behind the bar and knows his beer (rather than young bar staff who simply serve and have little knowledge of the products they are serving), and the menu... This is a real pub that does not pretend to be anything else, good atmosphere, created mostly by the genial and extrovert, landlord Steve, who is not only interesting but a good source of information, food is good honest pub food and the steak and ale pie in particular.

Popped in for some lunch as I was passing by. Very good home made lasagne, weirdly served with salad and peas but none the less was excellent. The loos were not clean though, maybe an oversight.

We had not been to The gardeners for some time, no reason just the way it goes! On Sunday evening we decided to go and eat at The Gardeners, telephoned to secure a table for two and duly arrived to be warmly greeted by Steve. The whole place was steeped in an atmosphere of calm relaxation created by the nearly... More

The Gardeners Arms is our favourite local pub! The owners and their staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive (what more can you ask for). The pub is great for a meal for two or to bring the whole family and the prices are really good considering the quality and amount of food you get. I highly recommend all food at... More

Contrary to rumours in the past few weeks, Steve and Jill are still at the Gardeners and are likely to be as nothing has changed. We ate there this evening, and true to form the rump steak was delicious, the beer and wine are equally good as is Steve's amazing humour.

Always good value especially on a Wednesday lunch when you can have 2 courses for£7.50! Very pleasant pub which, contrary to rumours is NOT closing owing to it being sold! Things are now, and will be in the future, as they always have been -- so go and enjoy the food and the welcome!

we arrived for lunch and were shown to our table that had already been booked, we were handed menus and was expecting someone to come back and take our orders not realising that we had to order at the bar as nobody told us and there were no signs either, well not that we could see, anyway we had starters... We visited due to location really as was equidistant for my friends. The landlord was really friendly and made us feel welcome. We ordered starters and main courses. There is a free pool table which we took advantage of while we waited. The baked Camembert was amazing and would definitely recommend- but to share. The lasagne was also really nice... More
