We visited the Bear in January and had the Christmas menu of turkey etc. As Dec had just finished we were not expecting to be blown away by the usual fare. How wrong we were, the meal was delicious. It was not heavy or bland, but beautifully balanced. Our New Year's resolution is to visit the Bear more often.

We have just been here for my husbands birthday meal. The food was amazing the best lamp rump I have ever had! Very good value for money. We will visit again.

We rang on the 27th December wanting a table for 9 people on the following day for my mother in law's 82nd birthday. Table no problem sir. After a minor disaster, 2 of our party were unable to make the main part of the meal but no problems, everything proceeded as normal after we were asked if we wanted to... More

Having not eaten here for a few months you always wonder if the standard will have changed. Although it is hard to imagine the food has got even better. We had the Sunday lunch and it was superb, the meet cooked beautifully and gravy to die for and all served piping hot. The service is friendly and efficient and the... More

Booked last Friday night for my boy friend's birthday. The food was fantastic and considering the other half is a coeliac the choice was quite extensive and the staff were very warm and it was all soooo reasonably priced. Definitely would go again. Only thing is that the surroundings are a bit Spartan, could do with cosying up (with the... More

Husband and I had another lovely meal at the Bear on Friday. It was game night, so the menu was slightly different to the regular one - the Bear runs themed cuisine nights quite often, always nice for a change. I had poached duck egg, spinach and hollandaise to start - simply divine. Husband had scallops, which looked great and... More

As a coeliac eating out can be a challenge. This place was brilliant though. The food was just lovely - simple things done very well - and it was a treat to be looked after by people who clearly understood my needs. The atmosphere was very welcoming, relaxed and pleasantly unpretentious.

The food was very nice and the service was excellent. There were 7 of us and we all had a different choice of food and it was all very good. I felt that there wasn't any atmosphere in the bar and that would be my only negative point.

We had a delicious meal yesterday. My starter of sardines on grilled focaccia was spot on. The grilled rump of lamb with figs and herb polenta was perfectly cooked. Proper seasonal vegetables too. It was as good a meal as we have had anywhere. We're lucky to live in the same village!
