Good food in a very complicated building

I assume the Bear Inn is an old inn building though I suppose it could be a large converted house - either way its internals are very complex, and this did create minor problems for one member of our party that doesn't walk well. As well as a bar area, and more than one eating room, there were also... read more

Good quality food except the roast beef was overpriced as you only got two thin slices. My wifes Sea Bass again was overpriced for the size ofthe portion.

Lovely food, excellent service - really felt looked after. Wasn't sure when we arrived as it looked like any other gastro pub, but the service and food was exceptionally well presented and cooked perfectly.

Unassuming front and simple decor, but don't let this fool you. The food was truly first class. A warm welcoming staff who remembered my name from the call to book. I ordered the chicken liver parfait for starters, the lamb rump to follow and the lemon tart with sorbet to Finnish. All of the food was beautifully presented and very... More

Went here on 5th July to celebrate a family birthday. The Sunday roasts were excellent and the gravy was particularly delicious. The landlord and staff were incredibly friendly and they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and look after our every need. Would definitely recommend it to others!

I must confess it was with a little trepidation I booked the Bear for a Sunday lunch. Up from London for the weekend were a lovely couple I've known many years whose standards are high. They enjoy the big city competition that can provide for good food at reasonable cost - if you know where to go. As a long... More

A really amazing meal, in a local pub. There was a wide choice of dishes on the menu. Food was perfectly cooked, using fresh ingredients and to a very high quality. Service was excellent.

Many years ago I lived in Beyton and to me the pub looked tired, run down and a spit and sawdust place, with only a handful of local drinkers keeping it afloat.Certainly not an inviting picture. Looking at reviews of local pubs in the area I was very surprised to read good ones. As advised I booked a table for... More

Don't be put off by the unprepossessing exterior. This is a great place to eat. We had a delicious lunch chosen from a small but interesting menu with very good, locally supplied ingredients. Staff were helpful and pleased to be part of a great place. Stripped bare tables and chairs, with no frills or soft furnishings did not detract from... More

It is many years since I have set foot in this rather unprepossessing hostelry. I my youth and indeed in later years it was a famed beer house, not my scene. My friend suggested that to celebrate my birthday we ought to visit and have a meal as he had heard very good things about it. Never one not to... More
