Cool Rooms, Hot Food

On a snowy 28° night in January, I had dinner at the Shaker Village Inn. Though I kept my coat on during the meal, I had a swell time. The ambiance is calming and quiet and wait staff attentive. Excellent food - reservations recommended - we had the Chicken Croquettes and Hot Roast Beef sandwich - lunch menu - and topped it off with Lemon pie, chess pie and fudge cake (3 of us) It was a very cool to cold day so the hot lunch worked well. The eldest in the party was using a walker and we... More

The rooms are very charming with Shaker pegs instead of hangars, though the plumbing is quite modern. I stayed in the West Family Wash House. The entire village is so peaceful and everyone who works there welcomes you like a long lost friend or family member. This was an amzing introduction for my first visit to Kentucky!

Delicious. Tyler was an excellent server. The Tomato/Celery Soup was just delicious. The crackers were a bit stale, but didn't need them. The cole slaw starter is just great and we finished with pumpkin cake. Loved it!

Before touring the restored Shaker Village, we stopped at the Trustee's Dining Room for a relatively quick lunch served by friendly staff. The room, as one might expect, was furnished in the Shaker tradition but thankfully all of the dining chairs had been removed from their pegs on the wall. We had the chicken croquettes with Marsala/cream sauce and vegetable... More

When we came here I had no idea what to expect. It took me about two hours to fall totally in love with this place. We found the staff both super friendly and expertly knowledgeable; the village, a miracle of reconstruction and beauty; the restaurant-- exquisite; the accomodations both comfortable and fun; and the experience to be totally relaxing. This... More

Well, We wanted to love our dinner and our breakfast the next day, but there were some glitches. I had the pot roast which at $17.95 should've been moist but it was very dry. The veggies were a bit overcooked, as well. My husband did love his catfish, but he did not like it when the server opened our wine... More

The historic Trustees' Office Dining Room in the Shaker Village offered mouth-watering menus made from the freshest produce and meats; the perfect pairing for a delightful dining experience. Matt, our server, provided conversation, friendliness, and attention. Our menu choices were the Brother's Salad with Spinach and the Fried Pork Tenderloin with real mashed potatoes and flavorful green beans. As we... More

To be brief. The food is so-so and priced above its quality. Waiters are competent but the female maitre d' is a disgrace to the entire establishment. Restaurant may be hard to avoid due to location, but a self-provided picnic Will give you much more pleasure

Menu was good and the food was better. Many of the ingredients are grown right there on the farm. The building itself was an authentic Shaker structure. And you can get overnight accommodation there if you choose. Most of the waiters are students from nearby schools so tip generously!
