Eating ethiopian food. I don't really know what to make of it. I do like the flavors and textures. We shared the combo platter as Elsa recommended. The injera is their potatoes or rice. It's similar to a pancake. It has a neutral taste but nice texture. As Elsa said- you have to dunk it over the beef or chicken... More

We love going to the farmers market on Saturday and then stopping by Elsa's for lunch. They have wonderful dishes. Our favorites are the combos so we can get different tastes on one plate.

I had never tried Ethiopian food, so I jumped at the chance when I was in KC for business. The place is not huge, but the food is delicious, and the staff is very attentive. The food is not really spicy compared to Indian, for example. I like sharing. The portions are huge. I'd go again if I was in... More

I have had the pleasure of excellent Ethionpian in several states across this nation. Elsa's was good, but fell short of the mark set by others in the genre. The food has less flavor and "oomph" than I am used to and seemed a bit bland. Perhaps they were trying to tone it down for Americans. Who knows?

I have really enjoyed every main dish here except one. The chicken and lamb dishes are all quite tasty and exotic (with that one exception). The vegetable sides are also quite good although all the various lentils taste about the same to me. Prices are average. This is a very small place located in the far west of old downtown... More

One of my boyfriend's old college friends is from Ethiopia and took us here stating it was the most authentic he has had in town. It did not disappoint! We loved it and have been back multiple times! Really want to recommend trying this place out if you have ever been interested in trying out Ethiopian food or want a... More

My daughter and I really like foods with great use of spices, of course that includes Ethiopian. Family run and ALWAYS so good. We go to Elsa's to get that fix. A small, quaint! Friendly environment. Good selection of both vegetarian and meat dishes. They also have a variety of drinks. There are a couple of deserts and if it... More

I love Ethiopian food. Of all cuisine's it is my favorite and Elsa's has quickly become my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in KC. I went here for the first time about a year ago and have been back 6 times. My two favorite entrees are the Doro Watt and the Kitfo. Elsa's is the first Ethiopian restaurant I've ever seen or... Great experience! The food is great, both with vegetarian and delicious meat options. I basically agree with the other reviews regarding menu and quality! Service is a little slow, so don't be in a hurry if you end up trying the place out..but it's worth the wait! Also, incredibly affordable..we a large dinner and plenty for another lunch the next...
