Good Stuff

Never had Ethiopian food prior to this visit. Pretty good! I believe I had the dorowat. My husband was in love though! You get lots of food but don't use a fork! The lady of the house will be quick to correct you. Lol

I visited Elsa's for the first time with a friend. We were warmly greeted and waited on immediately. The menu had a large variety of foods. We ordered a platter that had a variety of meats and vegetables that was plenty big enough for two. We were given an explanation as to what foods we were eating. Our hosts even... More

We made a point to go to Elsa's when we came to KC for the baseball game however when we arrived, there was a handwritten note on the door stating they were closed that day. Disappointed that we made a point to visit the restaurant only to find it closed.

I have had Ethiopian food in numerous countries but I can honestly say this is authentic Ethiopian food. The service was good, family ran small restaurant, very clean with plenty of parking in the area. The price is fair as well for the large portions you will receive.

The food here is excellent! You can't go wrong with any selection off of the menu, even the vegetarian items! If all vegetarian foods tasted this good I would consider converting! The portions are enough for two meals. Also, Elsa makes you feel like a member of the family!! That's great customer service!!! You have to try this restaurant!!!!

Eating ethiopian food. I don't really know what to make of it. I do like the flavors and textures. We shared the combo platter as Elsa recommended. The injera is their potatoes or rice. It's similar to a pancake. It has a neutral taste but nice texture. As Elsa said- you have to dunk it over the beef or chicken... More

We love going to the farmers market on Saturday and then stopping by Elsa's for lunch. They have wonderful dishes. Our favorites are the combos so we can get different tastes on one plate.

I had never tried Ethiopian food, so I jumped at the chance when I was in KC for business. The place is not huge, but the food is delicious, and the staff is very attentive. The food is not really spicy compared to Indian, for example. I like sharing. The portions are huge. I'd go again if I was in... More

I have had the pleasure of excellent Ethionpian in several states across this nation. Elsa's was good, but fell short of the mark set by others in the genre. The food has less flavor and "oomph" than I am used to and seemed a bit bland. Perhaps they were trying to tone it down for Americans. Who knows?

I have really enjoyed every main dish here except one. The chicken and lamb dishes are all quite tasty and exotic (with that one exception). The vegetable sides are also quite good although all the various lentils taste about the same to me. Prices are average. This is a very small place located in the far west of old downtown... More
